Should I get the game?
Hi guys, i didnt really get to play the demo, it somehow expired after 12 hours. anyway, i played a little bit and really like it. but, ive read on these forums that there are lots of bugs and games are crashing. is it worth the $40 for 2 licences? (can i just get 1license?)

I can probably count on one hand the number of times the game has crashed on me since release while playing it on two different operating systems. There are a few persisent bugs (I'm looking at you, showing-me-pitching-staffs-when-I-click-on-lineups-and-vice-versa-bug!) but nothing game breaking.
OOTP has been the best dollar to gaming time value for me for eight years. Edit - And you don't get one license to get a discount. You pay whatever the price is and get two. |

I would definatley recommend it. I have put far too many hours into this and will put it many more. If you like baseball sims, this will be a great buy.

You won't get too many people here to tell you NOT to get it, since this is the official messageboard, and all. The biggest reason people are here is because they love the game. Not only would I recommend it because it's a great game, the new version won't be out for several months so I don't see a reason in waiting for OOTP XI (or whatever they're calling it).

Has for buying the game now. Well that depends on your budget. If money is not an issue i would say go ahead. You can always run some test seasons in setting up your league. Maybe even join an online league. Plus im sure you will most likely be able to import your league into the next version. But lets say you wanted another game or needed to pay a bill or a part for your pc then i would say wait. |

If you have the $40 get it. If not wait. I am an OOTP homer at this point, online leagues are phenominal.

Even if you're just mildly interested in Baseball, but enjoy management sims, I would still recommend this game.
Personally, I started playing the free version of OOTP5 simply because I love management sims... then from there OOTP got me interested in Baseball as a whole. I never knew much about Baseball, so I avoided comitting to buying any of the new versions. But, I couldn't avoid OOTP any longer, and I had to buy (actually, anxiously pre-order) OOTPX, and I love it. As for crashing, I can't say I've ever experienced a crash with OOTPX. |

Don't create false hope to some
![]() Markus had said in the announcement that OOTP XI will be release sooner and for all we know it could been release one day sooner than OOTP X and it would be true ![]() Of course I will do my pre-release order anyway when the processus will start in a couple of weeks. |

I would most certainly suggest it. See one thing the OOTP Series has that other games don't, is that it gets BETTER over time. Most games I have played you get bored of, but with the more knowledge I have gained in OOTP the more I have liked it.
But I must warn you, it's quiet addicting. Especially once you get involved in online leagues.

Why not download OOTP8 for free, then buy 11 when it comes out. There's not a big difference.

I would disagree...there are large differences....but maybe not that much in the GUI itself...so yes OOTP8 is an excellent "demo" version in it's own right. OOTP 8 will get you used to moving around your league's "universe" and into the ability to customise large areas of the game. And wet your appetite for OOTP10 (or 11) or which ever version you eventually end up buying....because you will

If you are a first timer to the franchise... I would definitely use OOTP 8 for now and wait for OOTP 11 to come out. As for bugs... OOTP X is patched and and pretty solid. There is not a better baseball sim on the market, period... and there has not been for at least maybe before OOTP 3. Feature set, community mods, and a pretty vibrant and active support forum all make this franchise the clear leader.
The biggest knock on OOTP (you'll see it in nearly every review) is the learning curve. It's simply a program that has so much depth and options to is, that learning to navigate for the first time can be daunting. Keep at it. Read the boards. Those of us that have been using OOTP going back to the ver 2 and 3 engine have a significant advantage of learning all the new features that get piled on as they were progressing. But it's obvious that if you jump right into OOTP X from never seeing a previous version before... it's a whirlwind and you never quite know where to start or where everything is. Sounds like OOTP 11 will address that. That will only help bring more new people to the best baseball sim in existence. But if you love baseball and enjoy spending time on your computer, this software is heaven on earth. AND playing in a good online league enhances the experience even further. |
