Tiny Victory in Sonics Farce

My sister and her husband will be glad to hear about this. Cha-ching. Still, its sad that the sport has degraded so much so that a storied franchise that had so many loyal fans could be swept away to OKC by some corrupt businessmen with the buddy system going with the commissioner.

Oklahoma City Thunder owner agrees to pay former Seattle SuperSonics fans $1.6 million - ESPN

SEATTLE -- The owners of the Oklahoma City Thunder, formerly the Seattle SuperSonics, have agreed to pay former Sonics season-ticket holders $1.6 million to settle a class-action lawsuit.

Clay Bennett and his Professional Basketball Club, the ownership group that moved the Sonics to Oklahoma less than two years ago, reached the settlement agreement last month. It is awaiting approval from a federal judge in Seattle.

About 1,000 former season-ticket holders complained that when the Sonics moved, the team reneged on a deal to let them renew their tickets at 2006-07 prices through 2010.

The fans argued that if they had been allowed to transfer their tickets to Oklahoma City's Ford Center, where the team is now known as the Thunder, they could have then resold them at higher prices.

Bennett declined to comment Thursday.

Got that right. Even the national media eventually chimed in to that effect.

Good for Seattle. I wish Hartord could have extracted a pound or two of flesh from that deceptive dirtbag Karmonos when he took the Whalers South.

Link to the whole story for those that are interested.

One of the better documentaries I've seen lately. It's pretty painful to watch as a Sonics fan, but very well done. There were plenty of options and interest to keep the team in Seattle, but not from from the right people. Shultz and Nickels take most of the blame. I'll never forgive Stern for his tactics of, get us a new stadium that you pay for or we'll leave, despite 41 seasons of top quality fan support. Bennett and his crew are POS, but I put less blame on them than anyone else.
