Question on Ethnic Names & FaceGen
I have a quick question regarding how the game determines which type of ethnicity to use when generating a face. My question can probably be best illustrated by an example.
Take the US Modern ethnic group (#0). According to the ethnicities file, you have a 40% chance of an African face, 1% chance of an Asian or East Indian face, 50% of a Caucasian face, & 8% chance of an Hispanic face. Based on this, does this mean that every first name & surname that is assigned to group #0 has the same chance as above of appearing as African, Asian, etc.? I.e. if someone is generated with the last name Spottiswood, there is an 8% chance of him appearing as Hispanic? Also, to confirm, OOTPX is limited to 40 ethnic groups (0 to 39)? Thanks.

I believe you to be correct. The name has those chances in facegen, no matter what the name is.

As to the number of ethnic groups, I thought you could add more. At the very least, you could replace them with those of your own making.

You can indeed replace them, but you are unfortunately limited to a total of 40 name sets. I'm pushing very hard to have this number increased (hopefully even doubled) in the next version.
Similarly, I'm hoping to see the way facegen correlates with the ethnicities file change in OOTP11. I believe that for each nation, there should be at least 8 possible ethnicities and each of these ethnicities should include a percentage for each facial type. In other words, there would be 40 fields in the nations file used to determine what type of faces that facegen creates for each country. Conversely, the facegen fields that are currently included in the ethnicities file would be eliminated. But yes, for the current system, you are correct about the percentages. Specifically, the numbers determine how many players out of a thousand from that particular ethnicity will be given each of the 5 facial types.

I guess my question would be this: Do you really use all 40? If not, replace the ones that you don't.

Thanks for the info, guys.
I'm thinking of breaking down the US Historical ethnicity into two groups - one all Caucasian & one all African - so I can control exactly when & to what extent integration occurs (akin to what Questdog did with US Modern names). To do this, I'll probably combine the German & Austrian name sets (they're close enough ). This info lets me know that what I want to do is possible, so thanks again!
