World Series 2009 Phillies vs Yankees

It's probably going to be hyped to have the potential of being the best series in a long time, and im sure the mlb is loving it for their tv ratings. Hard to say who has the upperhand but I would give the phillies the slight edge as they have the better line-up, and have looked more impressive thus far throughout the post season. Although im sure the yankees will be favored. The phillies bullpen problems have been, besides lidge, largely overblown throughout the playoffs. Sure they had a lot of injuries and no set order for most of the season but they have most of their guys back now and they're all experienced pros. Besides one game in LA they and Lidge have been great throughout and should be able to match the yankees pen. Although, lidge's performance is still key and rivera is obviously the safe bet. It's all going to come down to the starting pitching though as it usually does. The phils have the most dominant man in baseball right now while the yankees have the better overall rotation. Granted Sabitha's history against the phillies is pretty ugly. If Hamels can at least pitch decently then it changes things but Sabitha, Burnett, Petite are going to be better then Hamels, Pedro, Blanton/Happ. Should be fun.

I vote for the I-95 series

(I do know there are another 8 possibilities for that with 3 AL and 3 NL teams on the route)

I am hoping for a great World Series. In all honestly the last two world series (2008,2009) have been great for me because I didn't care who won. I can just sit back and watch good baseball!

Rooting for the Phillies, of course (even if I weren't a Phils fan, I think I'd be rooting for them) but if I had to make a prediction I'd go with New York. Much more potent lineup (119 OPS+ vs 102 for Philly), a better bullpen, and while their rotation isn't as deep it's stacked at the top, which is all that really matters in the postseason.

Head says Yankees in 5. Heart says Phillies in 7.

Who doesn't want to see Sabathia v. Lee in Game 1? I'm really looking forward to that matchup. They are both pitching lights out. I think you bring the infield in in the 1st inning in that game.

Phillies need to steal one in New York. They can't go back to Philly down 2-0. If they do that, I expect a great series.

I can see this one going the distance. Both teams have 1 ace pitcher(Sabathia, Lee) one pitcher with great talent that is struggling(Hamels, Burnett) and one veteran that knows how to win(Pedro, Pettite).

Howard and ARod are both having a great postseason. I believe as a lineup right now the Phillies seem to have more of their players on their game therefore Ill pick them. Yankees have Tex and Damon stuggling right now.

The bullpen for the Phillies does scare me but all things considered the Yankees isnt near as dominant as its made out to be other than the best closer in baseball history.

I don't think the Yankee is all that it has been made out to be. It was pretty telling that Girardi didn't want any part of Phil Hughes last night.

If you're looking at production throughout the season than yes the yankees might have the slight edge although we are comparing numbers from an al team with an nl one, i couldnt imagine what would happen say if the phils could use stairs in there the whole season. But even then with the extra speed and power they bring I don't thinks the yankees measure up to the phils line-up especially with tex struggling right now and howard, werth, victorino, and ruiz all ripping the ball over the past few games. the yankees starting pitching is what will make difference if they're going to win. But I honestly think the phils are in great shape if they go in there and split then go back and play 3 straight at the bank where they've been running teams out of there in the post season over the past couple years. i think it will be phils in 5 or 6.

That probably isn't fair. Burnett does have great talent in that he has plus pitches. Unfortunately, he also has another great talent - throwing the ball everywhere else except over the plate.

That's probably a matter of opinion.

If he had great talent he wouldn't be throwing the ball everywhere except over the plate.

Good talent? yes.

Great talent? not in my opinion.

I've watched MLB intently since the 70's. I've seen lots of talented pitchers. I didn't say Burnett doesn't have talent, I said he doesn't have "great" talent.

You really do? It doesn't make you want to cut yourself to watch two members of the Indians 2008 Opening Day rotation starting Game 1 of the World Series?

Should be a great match-up, I'm obviously rooting for the Phillies since that's my team but if I had to guess, I'd say New York in 7.
