Baseball star of yesteryear found to have hailed from here
Charlottetown, The Guardian: Sports | Baseball star from yesteryear to be inducted into P.E.I. Sports Hall of Fame
Pretty near find I think, to have someone that was once in the majors be from the area that you live in. Especially in an area that is not known for it's baseball talent, or even known at all. |

That is cool. I came across a guy from my hometown recently. The only major leaguer from Odenton. He even died there when I was 15. Sadly, I never met him.

I found out the same thing a couple years ago. I had never heard of him (although I'm sure a lot of you have) which is surprising to me, especially considering he's from here. I didn't know anything about him until a couple years ago when they opened a new ball park with his name on it.

My dad played on the same high school baseball team as a future major leaguer. Not naming names though, as I dont want to give away my exact location that easily.
(I have privacy issues)I went to the high school at the same time as a future NFL player (though he never made it past practice squad level )

Goose Goslin is buried about ten mintues from where I grew up, and spent most of his life in South Jersey. I've always enjoyed bringing that up to people who know anything about the early years of baseball.
In recent times, I've actually been in high school and college with NBA players. I went to high school with Pops Mensa-Bonsu, and college with Jason Thompson. Pops was afraid of me, for some reason, and I interviewed Jason for the Rider News, which was really cool, looking back at things. |
