Gmail for Report Emailing

I can't seem to use my gmail account for this but the test says it can't find the SMTP. Has anyone had any luck using a gmail account for report mailing?

Gmail requires encrypted SMTP in order to send mail through their servers. OOTP is not capable of using encrypted SMTP so it is unable to send through GMAIL. You will likely have to use a local ISP smtp server for this function.

Edit: This is at least currently. I am not sure if they are going to be able to add it for OOTP10 or not, so can't help with any other suggestion on this one.

I wish I had a better answer for you then! The good news is that I believe Paul and Andreas are working on implementing this at some point. I just have no idea what the time-line would be.

In the mean time, I believe many of the free email options available do use SSL now for SMTP, so you would have the same issue with them. If you are fairly technical, you could set up a local SMTP server on your own system that OOTP could send the email to and then have that send them out to Gmail using SSL and your account information.

That type of setup would work but is a bit more than some might be interested in tackling.

You have the game set up to automatically send email through gmail without using SSL? Any chance you could share those settings? Gmail's help pages say SSL is required for this to work, so your settings could help others probably.

That is correct. I didn't do anything fancy. Just input my gmail account info in the proper fields and use a local SMTP for sending messages to a mail server for relaying. (i have Cox communications local ISP and had my league emails sent to their server for relaying)

It worked nicely.

If there is anything else I can provide to help you guys get your gmail account working with your OOTP league let me know.

Oh, you aren't technically using gmail for smtp. You are using your Cox local ISP for the smtp relay piece. That is the part that will not work with gmail (which the original user was asking about). In order to use gmail for that part you need to be able to use SMTP over SSL, which OOTP does not support.

I have no idea. The emails come from my gmail account and are relayed as you said through my local ISP.

I guess my understanding of SMTP and SSL are lacking. I just know that I have it setup to send the emails from my gmail account.
