Hey guys,
while finishing up the next patch (ETA sometime next week), I was thinking how the majority of players actually play the game in their solo leagues. Are the majority simmers, or do the play out most games? Let me know please! ![]() Cheers, Markus

Markus,
I play out all my teams games, mostly 1-pitch mode but pitch-by-pitch sometimes. Occasionally watch a few innings of my minor league teams to get a better idea about player development (although given the current state of my organisation it's a thankless way of spending ones spare time ).

I picked "other". I use what I have always refered to as the Eugene Church method because I learned it from him. I sim the first 5 or 6 innings and then play out the end unless it is a hopeless blowout one way or the other. If I have an important game or a game started by a pitcher who I am following closely I will play the whole game out in 1-pitch mode. If I get way ahead or way behind in the division or league I will sim some games in September to get to the playoffs. If I am in the playoffs I play out all my games.

I picked other.
I think virtually 95% of my "solo leagues" in the past 5 years have been just to test either the game for bugs, or to test how different things behave in the game. I virtually have been an online league only player since probably ootp4 or ootp5. OOTP6.5 was probably the last version of OOTP that I actually had a solo league last more than a year

Oops. No way to edit my vote. I accidentally hit "simulate 90%" when I meant to hit "play out 90%". When I sim, it's to get league totals and stats right. Then, when I play in earnest, I play out almost everything for my team.
If you can edit the poll, remove one vote from "Simulate 90%" and add it to "Play Out 90%." Last edited by risp2out; 09-15-2009 at 08:57 AM. |

I play out all my solo games in one-pitch mode. I have been known to sim ahead if my team falls out of the race in August. I've reduced my current solo league to 126 games/season so I'm not tempted to sim ahead and to get more seasons in.

Without reading the thread at all, I'm shocked that Markus has no idea how to play this game.

dola,
I play a fictional league, somewhat randomly playing games and simulating a week or so at a time. It's more like a 30% play, 70% sim split. Roughly. |

Ooops, I clicked" I simulate all games only." When I meant "I play out ALL of the games. " Is there anyway to change my vote?

Play 'em all out. Of course.

Sometimes I sim, sometimes I'll play out a whole season. I'd say I sim more than I play out though.

I have two primary leagues that I run - one a solo, and the other an online league. I'm *guessing* that my answer for the solo league would be the one you were looking for (in which I play out almost all of my games - 90% or more). However, in my online league I sim almost every game out (only pausing to watch the playoffs, seeing the games unfold).

For me, I prefer the GM aspect to the game, so I sim out pretty much the entire regular season. If it's coming down to the wire the last couple games, I'll play those out, and then I play out all my playoff games. That'd put me pretty square in the "I play out only the important games and simulate the rest."

I chose other....
I'll start a season in my solo league and play out the first few games, then I shift to playing a game or two of each series, then I'll start simming a week at a time, playing the games of series v. contending teams. As the season nears it's end I'll sim more as those important series become less frequent (unless my team is in a tight chase). as an aside, I've just begun playing on-line and it's been a blast not competing against the AI..... |

I didn't know this was a method though! I sim to the 7th, look to see who on my team was injured, and then proceed. Last edited by Mike Donlin; 09-15-2009 at 10:31 AM. |

Seeing how much difference there is when the AI uses my players (when I have tested it) and how I use them I will not let the AI play my games for me. If I am going to build a team based on my vision of what kind of team I want it makes no sense to me to then turn over the game play to the AI.

I also use the Eugene Church method. Sim 5 innings, manage the last 4.
