Talking IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

OK, let's go

The release date of OOTP 4 will be
MARCH 1st, 2002!

Beta testing is working great, the game is VERY
stable and there are very few bugs compared to OOTP 3 at that stage! I will code the remaining big features next week, and after that we have 4-5 weeks left for testing and tweaking, as well
as putting in those nice little improvements

I have seen that the pitchers now have fastball, slider, etc on their screens. Without needing you to get into details, just one question: is it just mere cosmetic?

ok, let's see...

OOTP4 is released to the world on March 1st.
My first child is slated to be released to the world on March 4th.

I'm guessing I get about 8, maybe 9 hours of sleep that month...

So Pitch types will have no effect on players (eg. Knuckleballer waiting longer to retire)

If you go that route Markus, knuckleballers should have the better endurance ratings as well, a pitcher like Tim Wakefield or some of the other knuckleballers can still go on a few days rest and/or throw 160 pitches a start, they should have an endurance rating of A... or at the very least B...

Edit - also any word on the final player picture file format? (.bmp; .jpg; .gif? something else) This would be helpful for those of us who hope to have player image sets available for the release on March 1st. Thanks again.

It'll be BMP all the way, and if you reduce the color depth to 256 colors, the files won't be big at all.

Sounds good Markus, just needed to know the format so I can finish up the set.

Will the career injuries be jacked up any or earlier retirements (espeically closers or pitchers in general)? or at least players who were previously severely injuried have a much greater chance of career injury the next time. For me the number of players that play into their late 30's is way to high. Whats mainly why i was pushing for a way to enter retirement year on the players pages that makes them retire that year (ie a Floyd Youmans or Herb Score type career). Hopefully, either a higher career injury option than is in ootp 3 or a retirement year feature could be added. thanks.

Markus, will there be a possibility of a player making a comeback from a career ending injury after a couple years?

Couple of questions dealing with league play... for those leagues who have been around for some time; how will upgrading to v.4 affect us (i.e. if we are in the 2004, 2005 seasons or even further along) without losing the current makeup of teams. I'm guessing that v.4 will just overwrite the existing v.3 files and keep the individual league files; or v.4 will create a new program file and we can copy/paste the ".lg" file into the v.4 game.

Whats the latest on the FA "problems". I have not done extensive "Testing" as some other board members have but in our recent offseason I noticed many FA's taking an initial contract offer (say 5mill per season) and then rejecting multiple offers in the 6-6.5mill range. It took offers in the 7+ range to get him to jump off the first offer.

Thanks!

Can Markus or one of the testers answer this question? Has the ability to search for players been changed? I was hoping to be able to search for players based on their talent ratings also. You can go team by team and sort their rosters but having the ability to do a complete game search would save a huge amount of time. You scouts already know the potential/talent of every player anyway, so a search would make a lot of sense.

Also it would be cool to have a team yearbook that you could look at for previous years that would list all the players that made a major league appearnce in that year and their total stat line. You can look at their teams by career, player by player, but to have it all there in one area would be great way to remember who played for you in any year.

You can search on players by ratings from the League Setup screen. Use the Find Player by Ratings option.
