GM Scandal: Baseball Rewritten

Baseball GMs Fixed Baseball

News broke today that for years baseball has been planned and fixed. Every draft, every trade, every free agent signing, organized by it's GMs. Bud Selig has finally discovered the disaster and fired every GM of every team and banned them from any MLB operations. All players have been released and a draft will be held 4/4/09.

Just a few weeks ago I was just an average person living in Boston. Got up, went to work, got home, and went to bed. I was always an avid baseball fan but never thought the time would come to head a club of my own. When the Bud fired the GMs I had to get involved. I got an interview with the Boston Red Sox, my hometown team, and was selected just yesterday morning.

Now my insides hurt and I'm in the most stressful experience of my life. Both for the same reason. The draft. Not just the draft the RE-draft. All players are up for grabs and on my shoulders to select the 2009 Boston Red Sox.

Late last night my head of scouting, Jason McLeod, arrived at my apartment. He provided me with about 200 lbs worth of game tape and scouting reports. I was up all night reviewing each and every player that we had information on. But not just that. I was nervous. I was doubting that I could do it and that scared me to death. It was now just a few hours away from D-day...

"And with the first pick of the 2009 MLB Re-Draft the Oakland Athletics select . . . Third Baseman Evan Longoria."

An excelllent pick, a young, great ballplayer.

"The Los Angeles Angels select Starting Pitcher Tim Lincecum"

Similar to the first pick, a young player to build around.

"The Detroit Tigers select Starting Pitcher Felix Hernandez"

See picks 1 and 2.

"The Chicago Cubs select with the fourth overall pick Catcher Matt Wieters."

There is definatly a theme here. Young, cheap ballplayers.

"The Kansas City Royals select Short Stop Hanley Ramirez"

Hoped I could get him. 5-tooler at a shallow position.

"The Chicago White Sox select Catcher Joe Mauer"

Interesting pick because he is injured for 4 weeks with a bad wrist. Kind of a risk-reward thing.

"The St. Louis Cardnials select, with their 6th pick, Pitcher Joba Chamberlain."

My scouts say this is a huge over-draft. He ranks a whopping 20 out of 20 in the 20-80 scale. Good luck Cards.

"The Washington Nationals select Third Baseman David Wright"

See pick 1 except he is about to break out big time.

"The Arizona Diamondbacks select Short Stop Jose Reyes"

See Hanley Ramirez except more of a 4-tooler.

"The Houston Astros select Starting Pitcher Zack Greinke"

A decent pick but there were better picks out there.

"The Milwaukee Brewers select Starting Pitcher Rich Harden."

Good pick but his injury history scares me.

"The San Diego Padres select Starting Pitcher Yovani Gallardo"

HUGE over-draft. Another 20/20

"The Red Sox with the 13th overall pick select . . . First Baseman Adrian Gonzalez"

A young, power hitting first baseman. Perfect to build around.

Hours later . . .
