Get a roof, you hillbillies!

Went to the Nats game yesterday. After spending an hour riding the metro to get there we watched 1 inning before a storm rolled in. The game was delayed and everyone had to huddle in the concourse. We waited 2 1/2 hours but the rain and lightning kept restarting.

Apparently, even before this game the Nats had spent over 24 hours waiting on rain this year.

Being from Washington state, this was annoying. They ended up playing the game so I'm out 2 tickets and a Saturday night. I don't think I'll be going to another Nats game anytime soon...and my other choice is the Orioles. Bah.

24 hours in delays over the first 53 games isn't that much. consider any time they have any type of delay, its an hour minimum

I actually really like Nats stadium, when I went to it in April I was amazed at the beauty. As you get off the Metro, it just feels your view and walking onto the concourse the field leaps out at you. If you put a roof on, it would ruin the look.

Yeah, I paid $125 for my wife and I to have that experience, watch 1 home run, and then stand in a crowded hallway for over 2 hours.

How about you find a team that doesn't play during rainy season, or in rainy climates? Here in San Francisco, I can't imagine a game under a roof. It just seems to spoil so much that is what baseball is about.

go watch a sport made for the indoors, like hockey, if you dont want the risk of the environments causing a problem

I can't blame a team for putting up a retractable roof or playing in a dome stadium as major league baseball is a business. rain delays and rainouts cause a lot of hassle and extra money so I can understand that part. However, just in terms of playing the game in my opinion I don't think it should be played indoors or under a roof at all. Baseball is meant to be played outside.

The Mariners are my team, but I can't really travel 2800 miles just to watch them play at Safeco.

The Nats are hurting on attendance. Seems this is a problem for them to fix, not me. Its a new stadium, and this area has a lot of summer storms. It just seems like a big oversight.

Well, to be fair, poor attendance is probably more related to their terrible record, this year.

Of course, I am biased. I hate closed stadiums for baseball. With the exception of, maybe, Seattle no teams really need a dome. But then again, I also hate seeing Football played indoors. I mean wtf???

Sorry to hear your night was ruined by mother nature, but I guess that is part of life.

Dont be like that. Rain is the best chance the Nats have of not losing.

Low blow to the Nats, but in their defense, they were ahead 2-0 when the game was delayed and then ended up winning by like 845 points.

Your area has fewer summer storms than almost any ballpark I can name. You are just unlucky.

Through July 26, 2009, there were 1,478 MLB games scheduled, of which 28 had been postponed (1.89%). Three of those were Washington home games (the Cubs, White Sox, and Yankees also each had three home games postponed).

Through July 26, 2008, there were 1,561 MLB games scheduled, of which 22 had been postponed (1.41%). Only one of those was a Washington home game (the Mets had the most, with three home games postponed).

Many teams are hurting in attendance this year. Overall, MLB attendance, compared to same number of games played last year, is down 5.3%.

The Nationals have dropped the most in percentage terms though, down nearly 22% compared to last year. The Tigers are next, down 20.4%, followed by the Mets with a 19.6% decline, the Padres off 17.4%, and the Astros down 16% to round out the bottom five. The two clubs with the largest attendance increases? The Marlins, up 16.8% compared to last year, followed by the Royals, up 16.6%.

How does one define if a sport is meant for outdoors or indoors? The main reason baseball is played mostly outdoors is simply the space needed. Baseball is as much meant for outdoors as it is meant for day games.
