Import Historical Player option in Draft Pool
Whenever I use the "Import Historical Player" option in the draft pool the player becomes a free agent as opposed to going into the draft pool. Is there a way to make them go into the draft pool instead?

Any help on this? We are almost to the first rookie draft and need to get this sorted out beforehand!

No, you cannot have imported historical players go into the draft pool.
You can, however, create a fictional player and you will be given the choice to have him enter the draft or be an FA. Once you put him in the draft, you could then edit him to resemble a real life player. |

I really don't get why this feature isn't in the game. It's been suggested multiple times and seems as though it would be an easy addition.

So you'd like the option of having a 28 year old "in his prime" Sandy Koufax in among a bunch of 18 - 21 year olds? Seems to me that would give a big edge to the team with the first pick. He wouldn't have to wait for his draft pick to develop at all while the other teams would. |

By me for starters, and I've seen others mention it as well. You want to doubt that, for whatever reason, feel free.

I've suggested it before, but maybe not in the right place to be heard by those who make the decisions.

Historical Players in draft
I used to make heavy use of this in 6.5.... suggested it for a while after it was dropped (OOTP7) then realized it was just never going to come back. I had to kill my newly-converted on-line league as a result which relied on the ability to import 50 historical players each year. That's too many to do via the 'edit fictional player' method.
What really p'o'd me that the first release of OOTP7 had a button to do this, but it didn't work. When I pointed this out my sad plea for help resulted in a new patch, with the button just removed. Not a red-letter day in OOTP customer tech support! |

I have just reposted this as another formal request in the suggestions forum. Hopefully someone will be listening.

Ugh. We pretty much planned on this being an option for this. No way I can go through 70 players per draft and edit them to be the same. That would take me ages using the ingame editor.

Is there a file I can edit the players in the inaugural draft or do I have to use the ingame editor?

I assume you're referring to a fictional league? I started with a historical league instead and then changed the team names and league structure and also setup a feeder league to supply additional fictional players. Now, my league has a nice mix of fictional and historical players and they are all in the draft like you wanted. Is this what you're looking to do?

I really shouldn't post when I'm in a hurry, since I keep forgetting to mention stuff. There is a way to have an inaugural draft with both fictional and real players in it. I don't have time to post how to do this right now, but I can later, if anyone is interested.

The inaugural draft was taken care of. It's rookie draft pools that I am trying to edit.
I attempted another way I thought I could get this to work. I made a copy of the league and deleted all the free agents out. I started to import the guys I wanted in my rookie draft pool into the free agent list. Then I exported rosters. I went into the main league file and exported rosters after the draft pool was made. I planned to replace the draft pool players in the exported roster file with the guys from the free agent list of the other exported roster file. But I found out the hard way that when you export rosters it apparently does not export players that are in the draft pool. |

OK, I finally figured out what you were talking about. I wasn't aware of the option in the draft pool page entitled "Import Historical Player".

So is there any way to export the guys in the draft pool or does the export functions not recognize them as players yet?

Markus replied to my message this morning and said he will put this feature in the next patch! Customer service doesn't get any better than that.
