Retire players according to history

According to the manual, if this option is checked

"Forces players to retire from OOTP after the same season in which they retired in real life. Otherwise, OOTP will decide retirement by itself, and historical players may end up having significantly longer or shorter careers than they did in real life."

I started a league in 1959, checked this option and now am in 1960. I have many players still in the OOTP game whose last year in the majors was 1959 and are still active. In fact some are doing quite well.

A specific example or two would be useful.

The two players I originally noticed were Jim Baxes and Dusty Rhodes.

After your response, I made a quick, cursory review of two teams organizations and came up with the following also.

Marv Grissom
George Bamburger
Joe Taylor
Bill Renna
Vito Valentinetti
Jerry Mallett

Did you check the option after the league had played a year or at league creation?

The check box is not retroactive and only has an effect once per season. If you checked it after that single moment had passed for 1958 players that may be the challange.

I checked this at time of league creation and have not done anything with it since.

You are having anomolous results then. This is not the normal behavior of the RAH function.

It does not appear that any of the players retired. This is not in accordance with the manual or my understanding of this feature. That is why I am reporting it in the technical forum.

It appears to me this is some sort of bug and needs to be fixed.

Not a generic bug as to test your challenge I created the exact same league you did starting in 1958 and the players retired correctly. Therefore the challenge rests with your particular league. Sometimes things just happen. Recreate your league and you should be OK.

I tried creating another league and it worked OK.

HOWEVER...it did happen once so how do I know it will not happen again? Your cavalier attitude on a problem that definitely occurred will only result in OOTP being a mediocre game that works somethime. Oh well.....sometimes stuff happens.

Also after investing hours playing the game, I manage each game of my team, to be told "so what, start over" is extremely annoying.

Perhaps I should have said this is a nonreproducable issue.

Nonreproducable issues are pretty much impossible to fix or adjust.

The only available option may be to start over in most, if not all, cases.

BeachBum,

Thanks for your post, and sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

I'd definitely like to figure out what the problem was here. As Spritze indicated, since it's not 100% reproducible, that will make it a little harder to track down. Do you happen to have a copy of that league file that you could FTP to us? I'd like to take a look and see if I can figure out what might have caused the problem...

Thanks very much,

Steve
