So, I have been playing OOTP for the past 3 or 4 versions, but there's something that I haven't seen anywhere, so I'm asking the question aloud.
I love all the great stats details with splits for anything you can imagine. Are they actually indicative of hidden, under the hood variables, or are they just interesting stats? For example, let's say I have a player who is an overall .275 hitter, but with men in scoring position, he's a .330 hitter. Is that because he has some hidden "clutch hitter" rating, or is it just how things have played out? Should I use the situational stats in making decisions, or is it just interesting data? Any expert opinions? |

Actually, I'd prefer not to know, as that is more realistic. No one knows if situation stats have any relevance in real life....
For what it's worth, I doubt if they do (in the game or real life), but the mystery is more fun than finding the ugly little man behind the curtain.... |

You can see some hidden fields in the CVS and other database exports. There is a hidden "Rust" rating that is for when players haven't gotten into a game for a while (injured... they skip spring training...). No clutch rating there.
But that doesn't mean that it isn't "super-hidden." ![]() OOTP Export Schema (OOTP 8). I need to update this. |

I'm not sure about clutch ratings but I am pretty sure that they have (or at least had in versions previous to X) one for early and late season play. I had a guy once who'd hit .400 + every April and end up at about .230 if I let him play most of the year. The dude got a lot more ABs than he probably deserved as a result of those hot starts.
Also, one of the GMs in my on-line league swears there are different ratings for home and away for starting pitchers. He'll go to great lengths to make sure that his starters pitch in the park he thinks they'll be most effective. BTW, is there any way to get career stats for the kinds of splits mentioned in this thread? All I have ever seen are the ones for the current year and I am too busy (read lazy) to write them down to see if some of the trends hold up over periods longer than a season. |
