BZ 3426: Defense ratings all set to low levels

Ok, I finished a season, got to Jan 1, 1903 and after all the scouting was done, both the AI and my scout, I found all my fielding ratings tanked.

Catchers throughout the league had arms ranging from 1-3 on a 1-20 scale. All catchers field ratings were at 1.

Most OF's had ratings in all 3 categories of 1-3.

Most IF's were rated 10 and under for all ratings which seems reasonable except when the guys on my team that had ratings in the upper teens the first 2 seasons were all at 7 or less on all their ratings. My worst defensive firstbaseman last year had ratings between 8-10 while my other 2 saw their ratings drop to 1 and 2's across the board.

I simmed through 1 month of the season to see what would happen and after 23 games the team with the FEWEST successful SB's had 93. The highest was 176. Both league BA's were above .320.

What on earth happened to the defensive ratings?

This was a team I imported from OOTP9 and it was created in OOTP9. It is an historical league as far as teams but has fictional players. It is set to automaticallly expand and in OOTP9 when 1902 came along some team cities and names changed as they should but in OOTP10, 1903 did not move Baltimore to NY automatically.

I did a test (actually several) with a mixed historical-fictional league. There are definitely problems with recalc, but I have not seen any problems when recalc is turned off. However, my league is not an imported OOTP9 league. That's only only thing I can think of to explain the different outcomes. Maybe someone who is familiar with that type of import will have more info to offer.

I'm wondering if the game is seeing all the players as rookies since it wasn't created in OOTPX and since you can't turn off the "base rookie fielding ratings on......" option, it is basing their field ratings on the non existent real life stats. I do have recalc turned off but have it set to update the modifiers.

Doesn't explain not automatically moving teams though.

I created a league thru X and simmed all the way through till Jan 1 of the next year and there wasn't any problem there. I'm hoping there is a fix for this as I would hate to give up on this league.

I did not have that problem with my oldest league but it is totally fictional.

Fielding Ratings Erased - REDUX

Another member recently posted the same problem that I'm having, but the thread was closed because he never replied.

Alas...I still need an answer.

As he posted:
"I went into the GAME SETUP and OPTIONS section and changed the settings to Recalc Player Ratings Based on Real Stats After Each Year and then set to recalc it every year, to base it on real stats, to base rookie fielding ratings on the Current Season.

After doing that, I noticed that all of my fielding ratings were either TOTALLY GONE (ie, a fielder has ZERO positions rated at), or they were wiped down to like 1 or 2 based on a 1-100 scale.

Freaked me out, so I went back and UNCHECKED the box to recalc the player ratings, but the ratings are gone.

Am I gonna have to go back and manually put them in?"
This happened to me several years into a 2009 league with many moves made, so I don't want to have to start over -- but the issue is (as you would imagine) wreaking havoc with scoring & ERAs.

it's not an issue to fix just my own team -- but every player in the league seems reset and has fielding ratings < 20 (most less than 10).

HELP! (and thanks)

This occurs because the players have no real stats past 2008 so there is nothing to base ratings on post 2009. The future has not yet arrived as far as recalc is concerned.

You should just use the OOTPx development engine.

There is no way to get the ratings back unless you have backed up your league. If so just restore it.

He Couldn't Even Catch A Cold...

When the new scouting ratings came in after I finished my first season (using real ML players from 2008, plus extra made-up minor leaguers, etc, in version 10.2.16) I looked for a new catcher and, lo and behold, every single catcher had ratings around 1. Arm and ability, overall rating... there were a few 2s, but mostly 1s. On a scale of 100. No matter how many or few errors, games played, runners thrown out, etc. Every single catcher in the entire "world". All outfielders suffered the same sort of thing; every rating was reduced drastically, below 10 in nearly every single case. A handful of infielders retained an ability to play one or two positions decently, but almost everyone lost all the range, DP, arm, etc.

It didn't matter what league they played in (ML, AAA, etc), how many games they played in any position, whether they were FA or still signed, if they are "real" players or computer generated...

I didn't mess with any of the Major League (or minor league) modifiers at any point. I even went back in with a commissioner-enabled manager to check if it was a problem with scouting, but everyone's fielding ratings had simply dropped, even in the editor section.

Everything else seems "normal" and there are no crashes.

Version: 10.2.16
PC/MAC: Mac
What were you doing? Running a rescout as the new year started.
What happened? See above.
Reproducible? Not sure, the game is saved and I wouldn't want to start over just to try to make it happen again. (I suppose I can try.)
Problem occurs with other leagues? Haven't tried.

Oh, and PS... When will Inside the Park Baseball be available for Mac?!

Thanks in advance for helping!

That's odd; in my experience, they have always been quick to respond to issues and (at least attempt to) fix them.

It does kill off interest in continuing a game rather quickly, though.

There is no response to this or my other thread about this. They must all be out to lunch.

This is all very similar to BZ 3314, but I logged it as BZ 3426 just in case.

This happened to me too... version 10.2.16 on Mac, 2009 MLB roster set.

No fielders in MLB have over a 30 fielding rating (20 to 80 scale) at any position after ratings recalc at the end of the 2009 season.
