Done deal! The Pittsburgh Pirates have agreed to send 25-year-old third baseman Andy LaRoche and 19-year-old minor league right fielder Wesley Freeman to the Houston Astros for 32-year-old center fielder Jason Michaels and a 5th round draft pick. The trade, rumored for days, was completed in the wee hours this morning.

St. Louis and San Diego have agreed to a trade today. 27-year-old left fielder Chris Duncan and 19-year-old minor league starting pitcher Richard Castillo will go to the Padres. In exchange the Cardinals will receive 31-year-old reliever Heath Bell and 22-year-old starting pitcher Will Inman.

The New York (A) Yankees will have to make do without Jorge Posada for 2 weeks. He suffered a throwing shoulder subluxation while colliding with a player at a base in the game today against the Baltimore Orioles. His teammates, understandably, were upset about losing the catcher. "That's a tough break for him," one of them said. "But this team is resilient. We will just fill in until he gets back."

At first, it looked like Drew might be back as early as tomorrow, but now the prognosis isn't quite so good; he's expected to miss at least 2-3 weeks.

Fans in Tampa Bay woke up this morning to learn that their team had traded 30-year-old second baseman Akinori Iwamura and 22-year-old minor league third baseman Reid Fronk to the San Diego Padres. In return, the Rays will receive 25-year-old closer Cla Meredith and 21-year-old minor league starting pitcher Jeremy McBryde. In his career Iwamura has hit for a .279 average and totaled 312 hits, 13 home runs and 82 RBIs. Lifetime Meredith has appeared in 203 games and saved 2 of them.

Ruckus Reaps 2-Game Suspensions
At a recent Indians-Rangers contest at Progressive Field, Grady Sizemore of Cleveland took exception to what C.J. Wilson of Texas said to him and tackled him. This led to an old-fashioned bench-clearing free-for-all between the two clubs. After the umpires restored order, they ejected both players. Today the league commissioner's office took action and suspended each player for 2 games, citing them for "inappropriate and aggressive conduct."

Even though we were outscored by the Tigers 18-15, we still managed to take the series 3 games to 1. Our only bad game was the 3rd of the series when we were blasted 12 to 3. Detroit scored 8 runs in the last 3 innings, including 7 runs in the 8th and 9th off of our shaky bullpen. Our next series is a 3 game set against the Indians in Cleveland who opened their season in Texas with 3 straight wins, out scoring the Rangers 21 to 6. Cleveland finished last season at 81-81, good for 3rd in their division.

Braves, Twins Close Deal
Both sides appear content with the trade finalized today that will send 27-year-old shortstop Omar Infante and 21-year-old minor league starting pitcher Jeff Locke to the Minnesota Twins, while the Atlanta Braves will receive 27-year-old reliever Jesse Crain and 21-year-old minor league starting pitcher Bradley Tippett. "We feel this is a move that filled a few gaps in our roster," said the Braves general manager. For his part, the Twins GM said the trade was made "in the best interest of our organization's future." BNN analysts reported that on paper the trade seemed to be a plus for both ball clubs. The players involved are expected to join their new teams for the next scheduled game. In his career Infante is hitting .260 with a total of 35 home runs. In his career Crain has collected 25 victories and 16 defeats along with 2 saves. He has a lifetime 3.21 ERA and has struck out 161 in 266.1 innings.

Detroit, New York (N) Trade Players
The Tigers and Mets confirmed this afternoon that a trade had been agreed upon. In the deal, Detroit will get 32-year-old reliever Pedro Feliciano and 22-year-old minor league starting pitcher Dylan Owen, while New York (N) will receive 27-year-old second baseman Ryan Raburn and 23-year-old minor league left fielder Kyle Peter. Raburn is currently hitting at a .357 pace with no home runs and 3 RBIs. The 32-year-old Feliciano has made 281 appearances, crafted a 13-9 record, pitched 250.2 innings and fanned 226. He has 4 saves and a lifetime 3.45 ERA.

Davis Gets 5 Hits
All game long Texas's Chris Davis was rattling the walls at Comerica Park and banging out base hits against the Detroit Tigers. When the dust finally settled on the diamond, he had a 5-hit day and the Rangers had a 7-0 victory. Speaking with reporters after his standout performance, the 23-year-old first baseman said, "Get 5 hits, win a ballgame, it's nice. I could get used to this." C. Padres Martinez Suffers Injury
After injuring himself, Padres starting pitcher Pedro Martinez headed straight to the hospital. Our first road trip of the season didn't turn out so well. We lost 3 straight to the Cleveland Indians, including being shutout 4-0 in the last two games. We only managed to score 3 runs in the series, while giving up 18. We now fall to 3-4 on the season. Now we play a 4 game set in Minnesota against the Twins who are 4-3 on the season. They are currently on a 2 game losing streak, having lost 2-3 and 0-4 to the White Sox in Chicago.

Injury Forces Dana Eveland Out
Athletics starting pitcher Dana Eveland will be spending 4-5 months on the shelf according to his manager. Our second road trip of the season was a successful one. We played quite well in Minnesota taking 3 of 4 from the Twins. Our record now improves to 6-5. We outscored the Twins 26 to 21. In the last game of the series RHP Roy Halladay pitched a complete game 10-1 victory. 10 runs!!! Not something Roy is used to seeing. Back home we go, with a 3 game set against the Athletics who are currently 5-5. Oakland just finished a 3-game set at home with the Red Sox in which they managed to take 2 of 3. The last one being a 1-2 loss. Oakland has the best team ERA in the American League, and the worst batting average.

Mets Redding Suffers Injury
The New York (N) Mets will be without the services of Tim Redding for 4-5 months after an incident in a game against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 31-year-old starting pitcher was injured while throwing a pitch and suffered throwing shoulder inflammation.

Injury Takes Toll, Pat Burrell Out

"I didn't see all of them out there," Giambi said with a chuckle, "until I rounded third base." He added sheepishly: "It was only a home run. It's not like I won us a World Series!"
