Thin Draft Pool

I am finding that the draft pool is always very thin with quality players. I know there shouldn't be a superstar for each team. But the past two drafts there have been only about 13 players with ratings above 40, which I've found to be the rough cutoff for major league players.

I'm not looking for more stars, but more major league bench/platoon level of player. I think there should be enough for every team to select at least one player of this calibre in the first or even second round.

Since I had a young player at the same position, I let a high priced free agent veteran leave so I could get the draft picks, but now I realise that it is practically useless because there won't be anything available by the time that pick comes up.

What do you think?

I just noticed the exact same thing. And I dumped a couple of good players for some high draft picks and promptly took it in the shorts.

This is incorrect. The 20/80 ratings are somewhat broken..especially for pitchers. You have to look at the skill ratings. Here is one quick example

And another. Pitcher 20/80 are especially warped. Individual pitch ratings dont seem to be factored into 20/80 ratings. I have seen pitchers rated 70/80 but with pitch ratings in the 40's and they suck. Likewise, I have seen low rated pitchers 30/80ish but with 70+ pitch ratings who are excellent.
