Using the bullpen.

So, I've been playing OOTP for years and years.

I've never used the "warm up" option. This year, I decided I should.

It makes you think a tad more. And, I like it.

One question... if you start warming someone up....

a. does he get tired after a while

b. if he gets up, sits down, gets up... does this effect him?

c. how much is put into being "ready" or "cold"?

I have left a guy in there for 3 innings seems to have to effect, I look at it like you call down and have him get warm and he stays loose until you use him. so once loose he does nto just sit there throwing, but then throws a bit if he needs to before you call him in.

personally I owuld hate to take him in and out just to save him from over working

if you take him out for a batter and put him back in he will be warm or ready, but it will take a bit to warm up again if he sat for too long. other than maybe needing to warm up, though, there is no problems

I have not fully tested "cold" it seems if you have an injury the game helps you out and you pitch fine, I have put some in when things are going horribally wrong when they were "warming up" I have not noticed problems but I only put them in at "warming up" when anything is better than waht is going on out there

Over all I like the system, sure you can leave a guy to warm up all day but generally I at most warm them up in the inning before they come in when the current pitcher gets out of the inning, then I put him in at the start of the new inning

though I might see if I have a league I am not useing and put in a guy cold and see how he does

It also makes the mount visit much more useful. Without it I don't use it too much but it becomes useful when your starter gets in trouble mid-inning and you need to warm someone up.

it may just be in my head but I swear sometimes when I do a well place mound visit and let the guy pitch, he gets a strikeout or a key ground ball or something.

Of course there was that time I went out to the mound and the guy gave up a grand slam.

I cussed at the computer a bit

Well, I never used it because the computer didnt have to. If I were to use it, I also want to be able to see who the computer is warming up. Only fair. So, do I have the option to look at their bullpen now?

the AI does not seem to follow the warm up rule, I think it would be a little hard for them to code it in, but they just seem to hold up a bit and put the guy in after trouble or a lot of pitches, as a good player would do too.

I think it is mainly a cosmetic feature for the player, I personally love it and never once felt the PC had an advantage for not using it. if you choose to or not to use it in you games it is you choise though

I use it and like that it makes me think ahead instead of just reacting. Never worry about the AI not using it as I already have an advantage over any AI.

I don't want the AI doing this unless it can be done well. If it is ever added I hope there is an option to only turn off the AI warm-up while leaving on the human in case I don't think it works well for the AI.

My experience with mound visits is they can have a calming effect. I don't use warm-up in spring training but I do still use mound visits for a pitcher that is struggling.
