Exclamation Injury Setbacks resulting in retirement issues...

I love that this is included in the game, and I will actually be removing immediate CEI's from the game because this is the way retirements should be happening...no player is gonna immediately retire the day after having an injury...

However, there have been some really ridiculous retirements that I have noticed. For instance, there was a stud 26 year old LF hitting .313 for the year with 105 RBI's and a 42 VORP. He got a ruptured finger tendon and was out 3-4 months in September. In December, he had a setback occur and subsequently retired. The setback was merely 2 weeks. Here are my issues:

1) Young stud players do not just retire unless their abilities drop significantly, which his did not---he was still 15/14/16...

2) If a player is going to retire, it needs to be a major setback---not a 2 week setback.

3) This would be likely to happen with older players who decide they don't want to go thru rehab anymore after a long career, not a young stud player getting ready to make millions as a free agent in a few years.

4) Retirements like this should be in part due to a player feeling an inability to perform at his previous level, which certainly is not the case here.

Based on all the information I have, this retirement makes absolutely zero sense. This feature needs to be worked on a little bit so it is believable...

I think the injuries as a whole is some what jacked, too many serious injuries not enough minor ones and the time they take to heal is way off also seems certain injuries happen on play's that would not realy happen.

I tryed editing the injurie file but it kind of buged up the injuries even more not sure why

but you would think this would be something that is more accurate

I am working on creating a more realistic injury file...I am OK with the longer injuries for the most part, as there are quite a few players on the DL's in MLB...however the whole distribution is way off...should be more pitchers than position players(55-60% pitchers), but instead pitchers account only for about 35-40%

Adam Miller's finger injury is career-threatening, so I don't see anything wrong with a career-ending ruptured finger tendon in OOTP - if you don't have a finger, you're going to struggle to throw a breaking ball.

A ton of people have immediately retired due to injury in real life, so instantaneous CEIs have their place in OOTP. Players like Brian Anderson, Matt Mantei, Juan Encarnacion, Mike Matheny, Corey Koskie (debatably, since he attempted a comeback) and Adam Loewen (from pitching, at least) have suffered in real life, in the last three years, what OOTP makes instantaneous CEIs. Eric Chavez and Hong-Chih Kuo are two contemporary examples of players who may need to retire because of injury, though they may be better modeled by the setback-CEI model that now exists. That doesn't count players like Josh Hancock, Juan Lara or Nick Adenhart, whose careers ended in tragic off-field circumstances.

Still, several factors should be taken into account when determining if a CEI occurs - age, ability, etc. There we agree - older players are less likely to undergo a long rehab than younger players.
