ftp problems

Hey guys!
This is the first year I purchased OOTP, and I love the game offline. However, I'm having some problems playing online. This issue could certainly be operator error, and not a problem with the game. My commish has uploaded a file to a Web server, and I can't get it downloaded through the game. I have tested the username and password through WinSCP and SmartFTP and I have been able to download it without problems. However, in the game I enter the username and password, set the port to 21, enter the path, the filename and URL. I test the connection and it says OOTP has successfully connected, and the folder exists.

Next I go to Game -> Load Online League File. It seems to connect to the server, but gives me the following error:

Error: Could not get file information

I verify that the file is there, my firewall and antivirus are turned off. Is the file format the problem? Its a tar.gz file. If it helps I am using Windows XP SP2. I should also note that the commish has downloaded the file and loaded it without any problems. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Did you unzip the file that the commish gave you to download?
You should have a bunch of .dat files in your /savedgame/yourleague.lg folder including world.dat.
Then you should be able to open the league and get the current file in-game.

The error you are saying that you received is indicative of the game not being able to find the proper league file on the ftp server.

If you have manually been able to verify that the username and password are correct, the most likely culprit is your league file name. Please keep in mind that the file name that you enter in FTP options is not the same as what the file is actually on the server.

For instance if on the ftp server, the file is: leaguename.lg.tar.gz then in your FTP options you would have the league file name as "leaguename.lg"

if on the ftp server, the file is "leaguename.tar.gz" then in your ftp options enter the file name as "leaguename" instead.

You do not need to enter the .tar.gz in your ftp options.

Alternatively, the commish could set on the file to enable HTTP downloads and bypass this problem all together (while also allowing users to be able to get the file without needing the commish login name and password)

Thanks guys, that did the trick. I just had to remove the .tar.gz from the end. Much appreciated.
