BZ 3146: Parks.dat file

Team -

Is there any difference in the format of the Parks.dat file from OOTP9 to OOTP10? I used OOTP9 to create a ballpark mod for OOTP10 that is currently available from my website. I customized player positions, ball flight locations, dimensions, weather etc for each ballpark. The idea is that you then put the parks.dat file in the save game folder and it picks up all the customizations. Well, I've been trying it in OOTP10 now for some time today with no luck. Did something change? Should the process be the same?

Hmm. Andreas did change some of the .dat files in the last week or 2. You might want to PM him or email him.

I'll forward it to Markus, he made some changes to the parks.dat, probably it needs to run through the importer?

Is that something I can do?

I don't think parks.dat has changed structure but with a new MLB 2009 game the team id's and park id's don't start at 1, so they won't line up.

So how can I get them to line up? I don't want to have to do all the manual work again.

Before you do all that work please let me know, I could probably help. Will just need a few days. I would need your old league files then.

Just got an e-mail from Markus with instructions, so I am going to give them a shot. I'll report back in a bit (in a meeting at work right now... lol).

Markus's idea didn't work, so we are back to the drawing board on this one. I have removed the Mod from my website for now until I can get it working correctly.

Why can't you...

import an exisitng game from 9 to 10 (I would hope the parks.dat converts as well)

then grab that new parks.dat from the converted v10 game as your "master copy" for use in all future v10 games?

Probably too simple of a solution... my systems guys always roll their eyes when I say - "what do you mean it'll cost $100 grand, its like 6 lines of code!!!"

That won't work. The internal IDs for the 2009 MLB game and the 2008 MLB game are different so the fields that tie parks to teams won't match up, and importing it won't change that.

Bingo. And so I am hoping that the OOTP gang can edit the parks.dat file that I have generated so I don't have to do all the work from scratch.

Custom Ballparks

Currently we cannot use a parks.dat file from last year in OOTP 10. This problem would require us to re-enter all coordinate data to already existing image/coordinate data. This would take quite a bit of time in most cases.

I brought this to Andreas' attention and he will be looking into adding an import/export function in the future.

Won't it work if you run it through the import? Like bringing a v9 game into v10?

The biggest problem I've seen is that the team id's for the major league teams are different between clicking Major League in the game setup and clicking Create New 2009 MLB Game on the front screen. It means that a parks.dat adapted from v9 to work in v10 won't be able to work on both of these type of setups
