Only Talents Solo League
anyone played only talent solo leagues....i like it this way because u have to look at their stats to see if they are good or not and not base it by salary. I think this is the REAL way to play it

I usually play this way solo as well though I often "cheat" to look at the exceptional players and see just how high their stats are. This is done out of curiousity though and I try not to let it affect my decisions.
Having a talent only league would be great except that it is way too easy for someone to gain a big advantage by viewing the true ratings. The fact that this game is so easy to modify and adjust to our likings can also come back to bite you sometimes... |

Yep
Yea this is the way I play.....I like it that way...My league is a solo fictional league with Talent only ratings.....It too me feels more real...I never hear people ever say wow that guy is like a 14 power hitter.....but you might hear something like Man Joe Bob is a brilliant hitter...lol... but everyone has their own reasons for the way they play....I just like the mystery of Talent only! It puts more emphasis on stats....and such I think

Hmmm .. I'm unfamiliar with this term ... So can someone clarify for me ... Is this an option within OOTP, to turn off actual ratings so all you get to see is the player's talent?

yes in League Setup you can choose between Traditional Ratings, Reduced Ratings, and Talents Only. Talents Only gives you no ratings, only Talent Potentials (Avg,Good,Brilliant, etc). One the greatest challenges with this setup is knowing when to call players up from AAA. Usually people will have a set idea, when his ratings reach 5 or something like that, as to when they will call them up. Without ratings, you have to go by stats and scouting reports, and a gut feeling as to when you call guys up. I screwed up a lot of pitching prospects my first few seasons of Talent Only Play.

I tried using reduced ratings for a while, but had to abandon it.
without keeping career minor league stats and lefty / righty splits, it was almost like running blind. if BOTH of these features make it into 5, the reduced ratings and talent only options will definitely be a fun and viable option.

Contact, Power, Eye (Hitters) Movement, Stuff, Control, Velocity (Pitchers) you no longer have the detailed stats for each hitting type and no longer have splits... so you have to check stats/scouting reports more carefully when deciding on platoons, etc. When I play with the ratings on, this is the set I choose. |

Any solo fictional league I run I play with talent only mode. Makes for a better challenge.

I wonder if it would be possible in v.5 to add more descriptions into the scouting reports. Things such as "quick wrists", "big swing", "streak hitter", and "slider speed bat" among others could add more individual flavor to the hitters. "Moving fastball", "sweeping curve," "tight slider," and "wild inside the strike zone" could be used for pitchers. I feel like now after you read 3-4 scouting reports you pretty much have an idea of what they are going to say. Maybe these more detailed reports could be available in the "Talent only" mode since the ratings would be hidden. Minor, aesthetic suggestion more than anything. The hardest thing for me is feeling connected to my players. I think something like this might help.

The PWBL uses talent only ratings and so far it seems to be working just fine. I can't verify, of course, that owners are checking the actual ratings, but I think that most do not.
