So, When will the rest of us get to order the game at full price?

See what I did there?

The day it is officially released, of course.

In all seriousness, I have never seen these boards so quiet this far into baseball season. I suspect it will perk up quite a bit once the game is released.

I hate to say it, but I feel perhaps as though we are a dying breed. I'm not sure younger kids are into this type of game the way we all were.

I was just thinking this last night. It seems like when we get closer you see the boards really active, with a bunch of viewers. Maybe we have become a more patient community. There is a bunch of us still here from the early years, so maybe we are getting the idea that it is silly to post thread after thread regarding the release date.

That being said I still check the boards, email etc. every time I am near a computer.

I don't think so. There's an ebb and flow to it. Simulation games are certainly a different breed than arcade style sports game... but there are plenty stats geeks out there.

I think releasing the game after the start of the season, every year, has a greater impact. Committed buyers accept OOTP's release schedule, sometimes reluctantly I'm sure. I believe many potential new buyers move on by May, and these casual first-timers are what OOTP needs to build business (i.e. once in, many will be hooked). I would bet a guaranteed April 1 release date next year would produce a ton of board activity and new buyers, but I'm not holding my breath for a change. Just my two cents.

The combination of Opening Day and the announcement of the game's pending (yet still vaguely distant) release builds up a great amount of excitement between mid-March and mid-April. Markus knows the potential reward for having the game finished around Opening Day: it would sell many more copies. How many more, I don't know. Probably between 5-15% or so.

I check in now and then but I gave up on waiting. I'll get the game at some point but I may just wait until after the season. I picked up Baseball Mogul this year because it was already released. While it isn't as detailed as OOTP, it's much easier to jump right in and play.

Agreed. I think the lack of an update at this point in the process has become almost expected by those of us who have been here awhile. There doesn't seem to be any point in asking, you either get flamed or ignored. I'll enjoy the game, but I don't enjoy the silence.

It should pick up once the game is released.. I mean, there is not much to talk about right now. I can only study the new screens for so long..

I agree for the most part. I got hooked on version 9, which of course was released quite late in the season. I just happened to be looking for a new sim at the right time. I have to assume that my behavior was highly atypical, though.

I dunno. I found the game in the middle of the summer a couple years back. I had become bored with MLB since my team was out of it and was looking for something to do. Maybe your behavior was quite typical.

This. What is there to generate excitement and posts about? We've hashed over all the new info given, and there's no new info, and doesn't appear there's new info coming anytime soon. It's not a knock, just we've already talked about people's attitudes, why haven't we gotten the game yet, if we should or shouldn't flame newbies... if there was something like a new screenshot a day or something, there'd be more activity. I usually log on, see what threads have been started, if it's nothing new on the game, I usually check back the next day, unless it's a clever title or something I'm interested in of course.

Flame me if you want, but Opening Day is long gone and I am finding other ways to occupy my time. Hopefully the excitement will return when the game is actually released.

Simple marketing theory would say that coinciding the release date with Opening Day would have a massive positive effect on sales. Certainly there are many diehard OOTP fans that are content to sit back and banter with each other while they await the release.

But, how many baseball fans/gamers (ie newbies) would take a shot and spend some money to give OOTP a try if it was available on Opening Day?? I think alot!

Just compare the number of people in the mall the day after Thanksgiving to the number of people there on Christmas Eve... Retailers who response to the public's interpretation of holidays and seasons do well.

Combine this long wait with the lack of interest that the board has in rectifying the current problems that many Vista users are having with running OOTP 9 and I know you have a portion of the OOTP community who are not satisfied. (but are unlikely to voice their negative sentiment given the current tone of the OOTP community and its message board)

So, respond with criticism, sarcasm, or silence if you wish. I just thought it was time to provide another point of view.
