hook pitchers?

what it means to hook reliever or starter? And how to gauge the limits to pitch count like 70 endurance= 100pitches?

To give someone the hook is an old vaudeville term, meaning to pull him offstage. In baseball it means to send a pitcher to the showers; to replace him with another pitcher.

The equation between Endurance and how many pitches he can throw isn't solid. It varies based on the Pitcher Endurance setting (under League Setup>Strategy). That means that a 70 Endurance means something different in a league with Pitcher Endurance set on 'Low' than in one set on 'High'.

It's also poorly understood by Forum posters in general (or maybe just me). There has been a suggestion that Endurance has more impact on how quickly pitchers rebound from a performance than in how long that performance can last.

Not to disagree with anything Curtis posted, I use a loose guide of a pitcher with endurance rating of 50/100 can usually throw 100 pitches or about 5 innings. Longer endurance seems to go deeper...and I never have a starter with lower than 50/100 endurance. The best endurance pitcher, however, seems to get in trouble after about 125 pitches thrown. So the range of 50/100 to 90/100 is about 25 extra pitches per game.

This is just a casual observation using the default settings for modern era (e.g. quick start game).

This is the definitive difference IMO. Very high endurance pitchers (80+) will be 5-12% ahead of 50-70 endurance pitchers each day after pitching. That makes them rested and available for starts on 3-days rest.

However that being said I don't trust the AI to properly manage this. I keep a pitch limit on all starters and several relievers.
