Who Needs a SS Who Can Actually Field?
Great game, but every season I see at least one or two teams in my historical league move a 3B to SS, where he plays 110 games and commits 42 Errors, finishing with a little league worthy .882 field percentage. The game appears to completely undervalues the glove at this critical position.
And it's not that these 3B are pure sluggers. Usually, they hit .260, 10HR in real life. But, that's better than gold-glover Mark Belanger's .220 average, right? We can live with the .882 field percentage for that extra single every two weeks?: But the second problem is in roster selection. Many teams seem happy to keep only one extra TRUE middle infielder. Often that one extra was really only a 2B who is shoved into SS at the first injury and sets records for fielding futility, something like 20 errors in 30 games. Some teams don't even keep even that! And so you see a guy who only played 3B in real life as the number 1 backup at both SS and 2B! Is there any file where one can edit what positions are kept on the 25 man list? And any suggestions on how to make the AI appreciate the necessity for defense at the SS position? |
