9 stopped working

I've been playing ootp for six or seven years. Everything was going great until we experienced a power outage while playing ootp 9. Now, whenever I click on the buttons to see my lineups or pitching staff, I get a message: "OOTP Baseball 9 has stopped working."

I've tried deleting everything and downloading the game again, but the same thing keeps happening.

Thanks for any advice

Will other saved games work without issue, or is this limited to just one saved game? Did the power go out while you were saving?

No, I wasn't saving the game at the time the power went out. I've tried starting new games. Everything seems to work fine so long as I don't click on the tabs for either the lineup or the pitching staff. As soon as I hit one of them, the message pops up.

I am experiencing the same issue and tried the same fixes. The problem (for me at least) only applies to one saved game not others. The game was saving when it shutdown.

I, too, have had the exact same problem almost, only it stops working while I am in play-by-play mode, and click on either teams' lineup tabs or the OOTP Broadcast tab. I can no longer control substitutions in games, for when I click on my team's tab, it freezes up. This is a game that I have played out every single game over the past 3 versions of OOTP, and am in my 5th season. Went from being a Rookie league manager, and am now a AAA manager, and was hoping to make it to the majors at the end of my current season, but alas, I may have to start ALL OVER!

Moore, could you try switching to a different skin, try changing the OOTP screen size, and try changing from windowed to full screen mode or vice versa?

Are you running any other programs at the same time as OOTP? Try closing them.

Are you patched to version 9.2.13? If not, you should be.

Which operating system are you running and how much RAM do you have?

I hope I am not jumping the queue here, but I am using the most current version, have tried the recommended fixes and am still unable to load my saved game. The rosters seem jumbled ... picthers listed who aren't pitchers, info for players are not the same when opening the player profile. Is there any hope or is it the fact the game/computer crashed while saving a game that there is no recourse?

I should have seen this earlier. Every time I reinstalled the game, the saved games where there. Once the old games were deleted, the problem went away. Thanks, Nutlaw, for the advice. You rock! Sorry I didn't notice and mention the saved games.

Now, instead of starting a new thread, I am going to bump this one.

I was just wondering if anyone would have any clue as to why a game would just stop responding while I am in PBP mode and click either teams' tabs or the Network tab? This just started happening out of nowhere. I am like 30 games into my 5th season of playing out every single game since OOTP 2006, and would be a damned shame to lose this file.

I am patched up to 9.2.13.

I have plenty of RAM - 2 Gigs, a 2.2 gig processor, I have 7.7 gig left out of an 84 gig HD, and using Windows XP.

I have run it both in full screen mode, and windowed mode (if that actually even matters) and I do play with the sound on. I remember from a previous version the game would stop working when the game was over if you played a game out with the sound on, and haven't tried turning it off yet just to see what happens.

I have also not changed skins either, ever. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game half a dozen times and the problem persists. This is also the only league I have left in my saved_games folder.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!

Crashing while saving will corrupt your game files in OOTP and in any other program that I know. Without backups, I do not believe that there is any recourse. Apologies.

Could you please try those things first? Could you also try creating a new saved game to see if it causes the same problems?

Another game file does work the way it's supposed to.

Changing skins does nothing. My game file I like still crashes everytime I hit the BNN WebCast Tab in the PBP Mode.

I don't remember the game PC shutting off, or the power going out or anything like that while it was saving either. It just one day, stopped responding everytime I hit that tab. That and either my team's tab or my opponent's tab as well. The other tabs all work, and this is the only feature in the game that just quit working for me.

Well, that indicates that either your saved game files got corrupted or they got so large that they are taxing your system. Let's hope for the latter.

First thing to do would be to tell the game to stop simulating other games in the background while you play out your game. I don't recall what it is called exactly, but there's an option for this when you start to play out a game.

The next thing to try would be to cut back on some of your settings. Even with 2 GB of RAM, if you turned all of your settings way up and are running many leagues at once or had a lot of pre-existing history, you could run into trouble. Check out this thread for hints:

haha, I looked at my file size, and you know how large the damned thing is? It says "larger than 16.2 GB

I have ALL box scores, and game logs over a 5 year history (and into my 6th year) plus all league have the highest detail on. It is all real-worl league, Rookie leagues, low As, High As, AAs, AAAs, MLs inclubing Winter League and all other foreign leagues such as NPL and so forth. I also have all of the dumps and such.

Now, I would like to retain all of these things, so should I create a seperate folder in which to place all of the dumps? I would also like to keep all leagues....well, all of the US leagues, anyway....on the highest of details, so that I can see how such-and-such a better fares against such-and-such a hitter.

But yeah, I'll look into sawing down my league to something a little more.....managable....sometime over the weekend and see how that goes.
