your staff?

Hey there,

I have about 12 staff openings this year. I'm finding coaches are FAR more particular about their salaires and take forever to get under contract. Also, they will always demand more $$, even when I offer the exact $$ and length they requested.

Is there a way to automate my coach signings? I'm spending WAY too much time hiring a hitting coach for Rookie Ball!

Under manager option page, you can turn the "minor league signings/releases to minor league managers controlled. At least, you can leave all the minor league staff signings to AI then. (However, if you use this option, minor league managers will sign/release the minor league players too. Be careful with that)

You better read this part of the manual, before get on to it.

OOTP Baseball Manual - Manager Options

Just to piggyback on the thread. I too find this frustrating (first offseason and going through new hires) and got really confused when they reply:

That was a fine offer, I prefer it at the moment!

At first I thought this was a bugged message and they were flipping me the bird, but am I to believe that unless they get another offer they will sign with me in a few days to a week? Or is it possible they might never reply and I should pursue other coaches?

I know HyperShadow.

I think it is a reported bug, and will be fixed (or at least will be looked at) in the next version.
I personally leave all the minor league staff signings to the minor league managers, and only deal with the Major league staffs signings. I am even thinking of not using coaches option in my league anymore.

how does you AI act?

Hey MYASU,

How have you found your AI acting for this? If you have it controlling all Minor League managers/coaches, it is signing and releasing players, correct? Has it released anyone good or regrettable? Or have you not missed any of their cuts?

To be honest with you, I am not really aware of what the minor league managers are doing down there. As soon as he signs one of the new coaches, I would check the ratings of the coach just to make sure they are not rediculously low. Most of the times, they are OK. I think most of the coaches/managers with great ratings would not sign with the minor league teams anyways, and I assume the abilities/ratings of the minor league coaches have little effects on players' development. I may be wrong here, but this (my way) works for me in a way, because this way, I would not be taking advantage over AI controlled teams by hiring all the great coaches in the market.
About releasing the players, I have not seen AI minor league managers releasing the "top prospects" so far. I would not mind them releasing prospects with 1~2 star potential. Because again, I think this will happen in RL very often, and I do not mind that kind of things happening in my league.

I do not micro manage my team anyways, so if you are a kind of a player who wants to know everything going on in your organization, then you should not listen to my advise.

I had a new twist recently. I was trying to sign a minor league manager. I would make an offer and the next day I would get 2 responses. The 1st would say he prefers my offer, the 2nd would say he got a better offer. After the third time, I just ingored him and made an offer to another manager. The 1st manager immediatelt signed with me. (The 2nd manager also accepted my offer so I'm not sure if I got stuck paying 2 salaries.)
