Ryan Howard for Brian Roberts?????
I'm running a ML sim. Started in 2008 and went on vacation until the World Series was over. I'm handling the Orioles and controlling everything. I shopped Brian Roberts and the Phillies offered RYAN HOWARD!
How is this possible? Roberts had a mediocre '08, Howard hit 46 homers Roberts is 3 years older and makes 4 mil more per season. And the Phils already have Chase Utley at second. Utley did have a broken ankle in '08 but in 93 games he still hit .325. How is this reasonable or is the AI just screwy? russelld newby |

Probably because Howard is going to hit abritration soon, and make a lot more money than Roberts.

Roberts is making over 11 mil per year.
Howard is eligible for Arbitration but the estimate is less than 8 million. Even if it went as high as 11mil, Howard is obviously worth more, particularly when the Phils already have a good second baseman. |

If you investigate these boards, you will see a lot of discussion (ranting?) about the AI's trading behavior, and what you should do to minimize inappropriate trading decisions by the AI. I think that the "shopping around" feature is particularly prone to screw-ups, probably because the AI is somewhat cornered into bidding against itself for players that it wants from you for one or more of its teams. Setting "Trading Difficulty" in the AI game options window to "Hard" goes a long way to fixing this, as well as other AI trading problems.
