The PEBA is a 24-team fictional league currently in its second year of existence and third season of play with franchises mostly located in the continental US. We have been fortunate to attract a quality group of friendly, competitive, active owners. We're always interested in getting to know more like-minded individuals with an interest in joining in our fun and would love to hear from you.

The PEBA looks for the kind of person who views an online league as an opportunity not just to compete but to socialize and share with a group of passionate baseball nuts. If you enjoy being active in forums, you're likely a great fit. The PEBA also places an emphasis on writing contributions. The amazing stories our creative owners come up with really help bring our fictional players to life! You don't have to be Shakespeare, but if you like exercising your brain as part of your online baseball experience then you've found the right league.

Creating an immersive and highly entertaining fictional baseball environment is the primary goal of the PEBA. We welcome any owner who would enjoy contributing to that goal regardless of their experience level. If you're an enthusiastic OOTP newbie or a seasoned vet looking for a friendly new group of people to compete against, the PEBA may be the perfect landing spot for you!

Be a part of baseball in Japan... PEBA style!

Now in our second year of baseball, the PEBA has been fortunate enough to cultivate a quality core of owners for its 24 franchises. With relative stability within the ranks and a growing waiting list of interested applicants, the time has come to move towards a controlled expansion of our membership. While the PEBA itself will remain a 24-team league, we are preparing to convert one of our AI-controlled international leagues into a human league.

The League of the Rising Sun is our 12-team Japanese league. Like the PEBA, the LRS is 3 years into its history. We would like to bring in 12 quality owners to man each LRS team and begin building their own histories. This will not be a promotion/relegation setup. The LRS will serve as a bridge to PEBA ownership, though. When a PEBA vacancy arises, we will look to the LRS ranks rather than advertise here on the forums. A scoring system that will factor in both LRS success as well as league participation will determine who gets promoted (the system will be spelled out to all new owners so that there’s no mystery to the process).

This is a unique opportunity for incoming owners: a chance to shape the development of an established league. While the setup and rules of the PEBA are codified and developed at this point, the LRS is virgin territory. There’s nothing saying that things must work as they do in the PEBA. In fact both leagues are already set up quite differently. Inaugural LRS owners will be solicited for suggestions on creating a setup for the league that sets it apart from the PEBA. There is a detailed plan in place and a very clear vision of how the league as a whole should develop, and certain design choices will remain non-negotiable parts of this expansion. At the same time there’s quite a lot on the table to discuss and I believe incoming owners will enjoy feeling like they can have an influence on the league they’re participating in. Of course all inaugural LRS owners will have the option of naming/relocating their new franchise as well as overseeing the creation of custom team art.

PLEASE NOTE: The PEBA is a participation league. It's our belief that involved owners make for an involving experience! That philosophy carries both privilege and responsibility. Privilege in that owners can count on being heard. In the PEBA your opinions matter and your voice carries weight. Responsibility in that owners are expected to contribute to the betterment of the league. Whether it's writing articles, maintaining a team blog, recording a podcast (coming soon!), creating art assets, providing technical know-how or simply being active members of our forums, every contribution makes our league that much stronger. It's one thing to silently sim through the seasons, quite another to cultivate an immersive fiction and an inviting social atmosphere. We aim for the latter goal.

As a current owner (New Orleans) in PEBA, just wanted to put my support in for this great idea. For anyone looking for a league where participating in the forums and in writing enhances the experience, then this league is for you. We have a diversity of opinions about baseball and wrting styles which adds to the fun and joy of competing against one another. The PEBA has been an awesome place to enjoy OOTP with a small group of guys because of the great core of managers we have, but also and almost more importantly, because John (commish) is so damn dedicated to what he does! Right now we're taking general applications rather than assigning people to specific teams. Our expansion will be a deliberate process. It's important for prospective owners to get to know us and feel comfortable that we're the right fight for them; conversely it's important for us to be sure we're bringing the right owners on board.

You can get the ball rolling by contacting me directly. I recommend including your OOTP forums handle when you write, along with a list of managed teams in any other online leagues you've participated in. Expect a prompt reply with a thorough description of the PEBA as well as a small questionnaire for you to fill out.

The PEBA has been one of the most fun parts of my life for the past year. Creating an entire fictional universe, complete with rivalries, memorable player personalities, and detailed events is an OOTP experience unlike any other. I am throwing in my support of our expansion to Japan. The PEBA has been great and even though its a game, like John said, it is very real because of the people involved have contributed in so many ways. But the main thing its just a whole lot of fun being part of this group.

I have been searching for a league for a while now, and the PEBA seems to be just what I'm looking for. I am involved in the familiarization process and hope to be an owner of one of the expansion franchises. Everything seems first class so far. I have been treated very well.

I've been a part of the community for three days - it's a very good one. Especially ideal if you love fictional leagues and immersion in them it seems.

Slowly but surely we're filling up. Over half the available ownership roles have been claimed. I'm thrilled by the quality and enthusiasm of the new owners who have joined us and am looking forward to meeting more of you soon.

In the original post I talked about the passion amongst our owners. That's no joke: PEBA owners really do love their league. Their level of activity and involvement never ceases to amaze me. As an example, allow me to highlight a few of our recent articles:

• PEBA Minor League Organizational Reports: Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4. The magnum opus. American Baseball Perspective (the PEBA's national baseball magazine) ranks every farm system in the league - and this reporter doesn't spare the criticism! Sit down, grab some snacks and settle in. At over 25,000 words, you're going to have enough reading material to last you a good, long time.

• Featherheads.com Webcast: Mark Richardson's Date: Earlier this year a lucky lady won a date with Florida Featherheads 2B Mark "Ice Cold" Richardson as part of a charity raffle. Now the bill has come due and Mr. Richardson has to face the music. With commentary from the always-entertaining Featherheads announcing duo of A.K. & Nelly.

• Keeping a Promise and Playing a Game: He may not be one of the stars of the PEBA, but Bud Hoffman's story is worth telling nonetheless. Aron Rocke of the Yuma Times (with contributions from the Lethbridge Anthem) conducts a touching interview with the Bulldozers' second baseman.

And that's just the start. In the last week alone we've had nearly 30 articles submitted by our owners. This is a group that cares about their league! If you're the kind of person who wants to get wholly immersed in your sim baseball hobby, give us a shout. You'll fit right in with us.

We're down to our last few spots. The roster of new owners joining the PEBA for our Japanese expansion is impressive. Right now the whole league is extremely excited about the prospects for the newly-human controlled League of the Rising Sun and its interaction with the PEBA.

Neo-Tokyo is about to explode!

The LRS is looking for a new owner to lead the Neo-Tokyo Akira out of their doldrums. The Akira were the league's worst team last year. No doubt about it: this is a rebuilding project. For those intrepid owners up for such challenges, there is plenty of good news. The farm system has some nice pieces, led off by #4-ranked prospect Takiji "Bad News" Shiskikura. LRS owners have been extremely active in the trade market, providing you an avenue to improve your team in a hurry.

Perhaps Neo-Tokyo's most intriguing advantage, though, is their plethora of Contribution Points. CP can be exchanged for a variety of benifts, and the Akira have enough on hand to make a splash. While CP can normally be cashed in only during the Winter Meetings (which we've just passed), we're prepared to make an exception for an incoming owner.

In addition to taking on the challenge of rebuilding the Akira, you'll be joining a community of passionate baseball fans who love socializing with one another. The PEBA boasts a roster of extremely active owners; this is not your "sim in silence" kind of league! The LRS has an immediate opening. Last month we received a number of applications from very promising owners in response to our Neo-Tokyo vacancy. The response was wonderful and we ended up with more qualified candidates than open positions.

Tonight we conduct our second sim of the LRS's Spring Training. Opening Day is scheduled for Thursday, May 14. There's a week and a half to get up an running before the games starts to count.
