Lineup Being Replaced w/ non-selected player

Upon selecting a lineup (I have only checked this with vs. RHP lineup), the program is forcing me to play a player by refusing to recognize any alternative players at a given position. The program is inserting it's "choice" into the #7 slot, removing my choice, and moving other players around to make the 7 slot available.

Originally, it was forcing me to play a certain 3B, then a 2B, then a LF/CF (not to clear on what it's doing there now). Originally, I worked around it by playing the required player, but now it is insisting that I play J. Unknown in my outfield.

In its simplest form: I clear the lineup, place a player in the #1 slot. If the player is a different position and I check my next game lineup out (the MANAGE option from the daily games menu), then the player occurs correctly listed. If the player I insert is the "required" position, however, then the game lineup removes the player and places the "required" player in the #7 slot.

On at least one occasion, I placed an acceptable player in the #1 spot at a different position, had it accepted into the lineup, and then the player was removed from the lineup when I changed it's position to the "required" position.

I could work around this, with annoyance, until it started to require that I play J. Unknown. That is unacceptably annoying.

Which version of the game are you using, please? If not 9.2.11, could you try upgrading to see if that fixes the problem?

The one attempt at fixing this that I made was to reinstall the current version. The problem still exists.

I have started a second game. Same problem.

These are solo leagues, not online ones? In your manager settings, can you verify that the AI isn't selected to choose your lineups.

Yes, solo leagues.

Both of my current games show me as in control of the team, not the AI manager. I would point out that I can set 8 of the 9 positions. What I cannot do is leave out a certain player in every instance. Any attempt to remove that certain player with another player results in the certain player being reinserted into the lineup in the #7 slot, the player who I had listed for that position gets removed, and the rest of the lineup is adjusted to make room to fit the certain player into the 7 slot.

This is a new installation (and reinstallation). These are my first two games. In both instances I used Commissioner mode to name myself manager of a low level club. In one league I then turned off Commissiner mode, but not in the second. I have done virtually nothing else other than to play a certain number of games in each league.

Are you using 7 day lineups?

Although you may not have set this check that the certain player does not have force start checked.

I don't use 7 day lineups. The 5 questions at the top are all answered No.

Also, I would point out that this is not just one player. Over time the player/position involved has migrated. I am not sure what is triggering the changes.

By low level you mean minor leagues? If so, can you reproduce the problem as a major league manager?

Will check.

A note: After 6-7 games with no problem, I now have two players, at 1B and SS, batting in the 6 and 7 spots despite them not being listed in my chosen lineups.

Ok. Couple of things.

1) Created new manager in same game, chose Commssioner mode, made new manager a GM in the Majors. I used the lineup already listed in the Edit Lineups page. When I went to manage the game, the catcher had been replaced, with the new catcher put in the 7 slot and other players moved to accommodate the change. I checked the replaced catcher and he was at 83% health.

2) Very important. I had not previously noticed the [Team name] Lineup and Starting Pitcher tab. That tab listed the changed lineup. When I replaced the change with my choice and chose Start Game, the game did proceed with my chosen lineup. Nonetheless, it remains true that the computer is choosing a lineup which I am not choosing on the Edit Lineup screen.

I do have a workaround which, on short experimentation, will work, but this does not address the underlying weirdness of players mysteriously being chosen for me.

Oh. So the AI is rearranging your lineup when you yourself are playing out the game? I don't suppose that you know what it does if you sim the game out without playing it yourself?

I have decided that what I'm seeing is a poorly understood feature, not a bug. I believe that the lineups are being prepared using the depth charts, as designed, a process which did not dawn on me until I realized there were tabs to let me change my lineups from the [Team]Lineups and Starters tabs, rather than solely from the Edit Lineups button. When I deleted the depth charts, I (think) my problems evaporated.

Thank you for your attention to this. I must say I do often find the underlying sense of the game confounding. Not wrong or poorly designed, but not as intuitive as I might have been expecting.

I am withdrawing this request. Please mark this as resolved.
