Spring Training and "rust"

how much does a guy have to play in the spring to not be rusty when the season starts? is there a way to tell when the guy has seen enough ABs so i can bench him for the rest of ST to avoid injury?

Unfortunately, that's never been studied and documented as far as I know. So, the answer is "some," as in this paragraph from the online manual:

Quote:
Rust
Each player in OOTP has a certain amount of 'rust' after an offseason. For each at-bat or inning pitched during Spring Training, a player shakes off some of that rust. Therefore, it is important to make sure all your key players get at least some playing time during Spring Training, because rusty players won't perform well.
If you are worried about injuries during ST (they seem to be much more frequent at that time compared to the regular season), then you can always lower the injury frequency setting until ST is over.

If you want a guess, I'd say that they need about 50 at-bats.

I usually use either play every 2nd, 3rd, or 4th game for everyone in my lineup to make sure everyone gets a few AB's.
