Help!!! Need help mass importing/deleting players.
Hey all,
I am new to OOTP. I used to run a leauge of old college friends using Diamond Mind and we are migrating to OOTP. I am playing around with the Commish tasks and trying to set up a leauge that mirrors our last season (2008) so that we can run a "test" league before our 2009 season starts. We had 8 teams in the league that used MLB players from the 2007 season. I have been able to create a league with the 8 teams, but I only get fictional players. Is there any way to mass import all MLB 2007 players into our league? I tried to accomplish this with a Historical League Import, but it doesn't seem to allow me to modify teams in a league. Any assistance is greatly appreciated! Thanks! Brian Last edited by bmilito; 11-04-2008 at 11:18 PM. Reason: to add subject |

Make sure you create a normal historical league first and make sure you select "Commissioner Mode" and start unemployed. This will give you the ability to make any changes you want to the league structure, such as releasing all players, having an inaugural draft, deleting teams, renaming teams, etc, etc.
Then you can create managers for you and each of your members then password each. As a suggestion, I'd create a separate "commissioner" and create a normal manager for yourself. Use the commissioner to run the actual sims and setting up the league, and your own account for running your team. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the tip Fidel! I will give that a shot.
One other question........each subsequent year, we plan on importing "rookies" that were not in the game the previous year from the Lahman database to have a rookie draft prior to each season. Can this be handled in a similar fashion or do you need to import those players one at a time? Thanks in advance! Brian |

If you start in 2007, there are no rookies in the database for 2008(Lahman database has yet to be updated and the game limits us to the current year). So if you were planning on importing rookies from years previous to that, you will have to do them one at a time. However, if you start your league in, say 1997, the game will automatically import rookies in 1998, 1999, 2000 and all the way to 2007 and dump them into your amateur draft pool.
If you choose to start your league in 2007, each subsequent season the game will produce fictional players to populate your draft pool depending on how many rounds you have your draft set to.

Thanks Fidel....our league competes each year using MLB stats from the previous season, so basically for the 2008 season we used 2007 MLB players and stats. When we get to 2009 we would use 2008 MLB stats and so on. I guess my question is once a league is started and as the Lahman database is updated, can you add players from just completed MLB seasons? For example, we start our leauge in 2009 using 2008 MLB players and stats, once the Lahman database is published with those 2008 stats. When we go into 2010, can we import rookies from the Lahman Database in the 2009 MLB season updated with 2009 MLB stats? Something tells me that you can't do this, but I just want to be sure. I would hate to start a leauge on that premise only to find out a year later that I can't do that.
On a side note, is the Help file in .pdf form anywhere? My eyes get tired reading through the online help and would love to be able to read through the manual when not sitting at the PC. Thanks!---- Nevermind....I found it on PadreFan's website. Last edited by bmilito; 11-06-2008 at 12:45 PM. |

Unfortunately, it's one of the game's limitations in that it will not automatically import from the Lahman database beyond the current season. At the year 2008, the game considers this the "present", even if in real life the year is 2009 or 2010. Because of this, the option to import real players beyond the current year does not exist. HOWEVER, you can manually import players from future versions of the Lahman database one by one. Tedious work, but it is possible.

Thanks Fidel! That is kind of what I thought, however, I had to ask none-the-less.
