AI Demoting Star DH

I have seen this issue repeat in both the MLB League and in custom, fictional leagues where when having the AI set up Organization, it doesn't seem to like having a player over 30 years old as a positional DH. It will actually demote the DH (David Ortiz as a specific example) to Single A or even the Rookie League. The DH in each instance had had very high batting ratings. In fact, Ortiz made the All-Star team with excellent stats. Then I lost him after doing a quick AI setup. Turns out he was sent to the Short Season A squad.

By simply changing the position to 1B or RF will fix the issue, but then I'm stuck having to modify the roster if AI prefers to have a bad fielder play the field and sticking a good fielder at DH. There doesn't seem to be good AI judgement concerning DH.

That's interesting. Which exact version of the game were you using, please?

Ver. 9.2.2

I thought that perhaps fix # 1861 was addressing this issue: 1861 - Fixed issue where AI is replacing DH with a position player and then making a position player the new DH

I checked the issue immediately after installing the latest patch, using a complete AI setup and once again my 32 year old, highly rated DH got sent to the rookie league.

I'm sorry, but I can't reproduce this issue. I've tried it with scouting on and off, with DH enabled and disabled, and with overall rating based on all players and individual positions. I've tried it with young players and old, with stars and scrubs, with good defenders and poor. In no case will the AI demote a player simply because I've changed his position to DH.

Can you please try to narrow down when it happens and when it does not?

I just created a league based upon 1994 using Lahman. The AI released Harold Baines, who had very good ratings still, but has no defensive ratings and was set to DH as a position. Perhaps the AI is valuing the defense far too highly?
