Installed new version, lost all settings

Wasn't expecting to be able to salvage my crash-every-minute original MLB-roster game, and sure enough, it is lost to the ages. However, I also lost all my custom filter views, bookmarks, etc.

Only a few dozen hours wasted.

Hrm. After uninstallation and reinstallation? I'm querying Andreas about ways to avoid this in the future.

This happened to me when I uninstalled OOTP9 and re-installed the full "Patch 1" version. It wasn't a big deal because I only had three bookmarks and no custom filters yet, but this does seem to be a bit of an oversight. We never had this problem in the past because Markus usually provided "patchable" executables that would just update the original installation.

I wonder if you'd lose the bookmarks/filters if you just installed Patch 2 OVER Patch 1 instead of uninstalling first.

Otherwise, I guess you can just download the OOTP executable - that shouldn't overwrite your bookmarks/filters.

Yeah, that does seem to be the current issue.

The patch thread does mention that you should just be able to install either version over your current files. No uninstallation required:

I had a similar problem when I installed the complete version update over my old version. I lost both of my saved leagues. One of them, I never played, so no loss there. However the other one I was playing. I kept getting errors that the league files were corrupt. I had just backed up the league and thought that I would be able to bring it back with the back up, but no go!! When I tried to back up the league file it said that the backup files were corrupt as well. By now I was pulling out what remaining hairs I have on my head when I decided to try doing the backup the old fashioned way, by copying over the saved league file folders manually. Did that, fired up the game and it worked? Have no idea what the problem was but I will say this, I think that an update should be able to just update. Having to copy over the entire game files just to get an update is a bad idea. Too many more chances of messing something up in the original files. Is there a reason that it is being done this way?? Just curious. In no other game that I own do you have to copy over the complete previous versions....

Anyway, it is working now but I was ready to just unload the entire thing and send it back to Marcus telling him what to do with the game.....No, I wouldn't do that but this does need to be addressed in the future, I believe.

I'll close this out for now. I know that they would rather use a patch rather than a complete reinstall, but there are some technical issues at present.
