The Sabathia trade for prospects does it happen

Well have anyone seen or figured out if the AI is in any way setup this way.

The Sabathia trade because he is soon to become a FA for the Indians, and they are out of the pennant race. Better for them to get good prospects.
Milwaukee has a shot at the playoffs for the first time in about 15 years. With Sabathia they just make it. They gamble that Sabathia then still becomes a FA, but their thoughts are short-term.

We got two different needs to be filled, so of course I would like to know if anyone playing this game over the years can say that this is something that could happen or this is just a wet dream

Excellent question that I would like to know also?

I know OOTP has a Rule 5 option that helps prevent teams from stockpiling talent, I think?

The thing about the Sabbathia trade is that Milwaukee may receive Free Agent compensation if Sabbathia signs with another team prior to December 2nd, thus receiveing two extra top flight picks. I don't beleive any sim can recreate Free agent compensation unless you are in commich mode and change the draft pick from the team that signed the free agent to the team that lost the player?

The AI is supposedly designed to take advantage of a situation like that and I have seen similar transactions happen in my games. That's not saying, though, that what is obvious to you is also obvious to the AI.

Guys here sometimes are disappointed that simulations don't turn out exactly like real-life; as in "Why didn't the Indians trade Sabathia in my game like what just happened IRL"? It's only a simulation, not a video recorder or a crystal ball, so many other things might happen in the game that the AI considers equally or more advantageous, or might not happen because based on computer calculations they are not advantageous enough.

To answer your question more directly, however, much may depend on the Team Focus setting that is found on each team's Front Office page. This is what the manual says:

<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD>Team Focus </TD><TD>Each team can set a team focus. There are three focuses:
  • Neutral - default setting
  • Win Now! - teams with this setting are typically willing to spend more money to put their team 'over the top' and win the championship
  • Rebuild - teams with this setting are typically looking to trade for younger, less expensive players to begin the rebuilding process
</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> So, let's say your Indians team is set for "Rebuild" (the AI usually determines the setting for teams that you don't control, but you can change the setting yourself for any team if you are playing in Commissioner Mode) and your Brewers team wants to "Win Now!" Then a Sabathia-like trade might occur between the two teams. I say "might" occur, not "will" occur, but it will be more likely I would say.

1998 Yankees,
this sounds fine. I know that you can change AI settings, but then the AI sets it back. Well, thatīs ok as it will reflect what the AI thinks.

Iīn not looking for historical correct deals. The dynasty you play is a different universe, like a different future
However I would like to know if the THOUGHT that triggered the Sabathia deal is inside the AI (Thatīs plain programming as I sometimes ask for)

I havenīt seen Team Focus, but thatīs what answering the Question in thecorrect manner. OK the AI can set it "wrong" in my eyes, but if the team is running for a pennant AND it needs someone I hope the AI can figure out that it could change this Focus.

Same as a team that starts out a season for high honours, but crashlanding already in July hopefully changes to build for another year or something. This will make this team act as Cleveland.

At least Markus have thought of this and hopefully it works.
Anyone seen it and can give thumbs up ???

Well, now that you brought it up, I will be looking for just such a correlation in my game. Frankly, I never paid attention to other teams Team Focus, but I will now with an eye to the kind of transactions they make and if I see anything significant one way or another, I'll report back. You could do that too, here, if you want.

I guess the AI will not make to many changes in the Team Focus, if it like all the micro management in all game situations.

I think they stay the same for ALL teams every year, unless some general tactics changes them

I wonder how much the general rule for trading makes to the Team Focus.

One can put AI to Very Low, prefer prospects to deal with or veterans.
The Focus should inflict with this setting IMHO.

As always the AI needs to be highly tuned, but still eratic enough to do (as humans) the unexpected thing.

However I wished that when the AI got a team together it should be some thing to look at the running of a game. Having general a power team with HR guys and still have same running "orders" as a speedy team sounds a little wrong.

This of course is mostly seen in historical dynasties, so it might be overlooked managing ones own team.
