Rising Star League

With the release of OOTP9, I figured it was a good time to launch a brand new league, hoping to capitalize on the interest in the new game. The Rising Star League is a purely fictional league, with 20 fictional teams filled with fictional players. The league was started in 1990 and simmed by yours truly, year by year, to the year 2008. I've personally edited draft classes and league modifiers over these 18 seasons of play in order to bring players' numbers and league totals to an acceptable and realistic level.

The current season, 2008, is a fantastic one to begin bringing in Human General Managers. 14 of the 20 teams finished 2007 with a win percentage between 45% and 55%. As the League name would suggest, the best talent in the league is young and it's on the rise. While there are one or two perennial powerhouse teams currently, other teams have stepped up with an influx of youth and talent.

A few important points regarding the league:

The League will be using a Potential Only talent display. Players' current talent ratings will not be displayed. This has been done to increase the realism of the General Manager's position. Do you gamble that a 37 year old, whose numbers began to dip last year, has a few years left in him? When is the right time to call up that prospect who's tearing up AAA? How soon can you give up on a struggling youngster and move him to another team?
Displayed Talents will be on a 1-10 scale.
The OOTP9 Scouting and Coaching system will not be used, unless it is overwhelmingly supported by the general managers.
There will be no Inaugural Draft. Managers will take over teams as is. There are no teams that are currently hopelessly adrift, and the top teams now will have their problems ahead of them for sure. An inaugural draft can be tedious and slow, and may damage league interest at the outset.
Because the League is currently in the offseason, we will have a Free Agent Signing period and First-Year Player Draft prior to the season beginning. This will afford Managers the opportunity to shape their teams for the inaugural season in lieu of an inaugural draft.
I will not be operating a team, but rather concentrating on behind-the-scenes league operation as well as increasing everyone's enjoyment and league awareness with League News stories.

There are other specifics, but these are the important ones for now. If you're interested, please head on over to the BBSC forums and confirm your interest in that thread. An official League Forum will be put up once sufficient interest in the league has been generated.

Please note that Team selection will not be taking place at this point, but only once sufficient interest has been generated.

I'm pretty excited about being able to run this league, and I hope a few of you out there will want to give it a chance. I love leagues because of the history that develops, so this league will hopefully be one that runs a long, long time. I also love to write, so you can expect a league that is never dry and always full of new stories. I want this league to come alive!

A few people have had trouble receiving the registration email it seems. I will let somebody who can look into that know, but in the meantime check your spam folders or have the email re-sent, if you have a moment.

I'm holding spots for the people who can't register their accounts, but I'd say we've got 13 or 14 of the spots filled at this point, so space is running out for anyone else who is interested! Now is the time to check us out!

Absolutely - you're Crpls on SimCentral, yes? - everyone who posted in the interest thread has a spot right now. We've since put up a League Forum to use.

It also appears we are now full! I've got a few people to confirm interest with still however, so if someone is still interested let me know and you'll be the first person I contact if it turns out we have a vacancy.

EDIT: We're actually still short one person. Still accepting people!

We're definitely open to new players.

I'm also still waiting on two players to get back to me regarding their interest - they have not yet registered on the league forums and I have not heard from them for a few days. Should I be unable to get in contact with them, there would be an open team for you to take over.
