NALB: Cincinnati Night Hawks
![]() Introduction From the dawn of time (or at least awhile), the MLB has had it's fair share of conspiracies and cheats. Players being dishonest with themselves, and their fans. Taking drugs or bets, or just taking their teams to the banks with greed. As big market teams dominate the baseball front, and the juicers dominate the record books, there was no end in sight. Until 2008. Commissioner Steven Jibblydif, a quiet millionaire, proposed the league to businessmen. He couldn't have anticipated it's success, not at all. In just a few short months, the league had risen to rival the MLB, the inaugural draft being received live by thousands of baseball fans. The 24 team league had already begun to make history... Settings Typical MLB/default settings except... Interleague play, trading of draft picks, 3 levels of minors. Using MidKnight's Fictional Universe in a Box ported over to OOTP 2009. ![]() Scouting disabled as I can't get used to it, even in OOTP9 Night Hawks Announce New GM The Cincinnati Night Hawks announced today a surprising hire, even for the new NALB, full of surprises. The Night Hawks offered Chris Oryp, a 19 year old hailing from the city itself, a lifetime contract as their new GM. Oryp, a baseball fan, wasn't known to be on any other teams short list. Night Hawks Owner Marty Dodd said quote, "We believe it's an investment in our future. We like Oryp's approach to the game, and believe that this lifetime contract will allow him to focus on the good of teh team, not his job." Oryp and Scouting Director Garth Mills arrived in Washington today for the NALB's innagural draft - the Night Hawks have the 3rd overall pick. Last edited by MidnightPyro; 06-22-2008 at 12:21 PM. |

Post-Draft Woes
With the 2nd overall pick in the draft, the Night Hawks drafted arguably the best young pitcher in the entire NALB. With their second round pick, the Night Hawks drafted 29 year old Earl Brown, one of the best contact hitters and threats on the basepath in the league. But that wasn't the Night Hawks woes... The Night Hawks boast a fairly decent lineup, a below average starting rotation, and one of the best bullpens in the league. A strange setup, but one that will do. Unfortunately, in the long term, fans were not embracing the Night Hawks as well as hoped, and Cincinnati didn't provide a huge fanbase, establishing the Night Hawks as one of the smaller market teams even in the NALB. In the NL Alpha division, the Night Hawks found themselves smashed between the Denver Phantoms, the San Francisco Admirals, and the Seattle Panthers, 3 of the biggest market teams in the league. The Night Hawks were helped some by a ruling passed down from the commisioners office, introducing a 25% luxury tax to the league on all salaries 120% of the league average, and a enforced hard cap of $100 million. "I don't think 24 million in budget difference means we're at a significant disadvantaged," stated Night Hawk GM Oryp. "It just means we have to make smart signings instead of throwing out money. At this point in the league, it's finding talent, not throwing money at acquiring it." The Night Hawks are hoping they can evaluate the team during spring training and make any tweaking or adjustments nescessary to make a run at the championship. Stay tuned for more... |
