Why are the contracts wrong?
Santana should not be a free agent after one year. Did he not sign a long term deal?

Question. For legality reasons, isn't a non-OOTP employee going to have to mod the contracts accurately for those to be in the game?
Isn't that the reason EA Sports was using credits instead of dollars in their games. I could be wrong. Just curious. |

I believe that nobody owns the players names attached with the stats, which is what the game reproduces, but all the paperwork etc that goes along with it, (money, trademarks, logos, etc) is not allowed to be reproduced without permission. I could be wrong, but that's my guess.
Or its that they know they can do this without upsetting anyone, and as a small company they're not willing to break it open and open a new can of worms. |

Well, that answers my question before I asked it. All this stuff gives me a headache. Every time I think I've figured this whole thing with trademarks and licensing and what's allowed and what isn't. Somebody throws a curve ball.
My first reaction to hearing that OOTP 9 was shipping with "real" rosters was that they decided to break the rules and damn the consequences, of course from a business and legal stand point that makes no sense. I think all this stuff with licensing is getting out of hand.\ |
