Game is almost unplayably slow

I'm running XP on a Dell desktop thats only 3 years old, yet I have serious trouble with the games bugginess and delay/slowness.

I've started 2 games, but both have crashed after a half hour or so unexpectedly.

Now I have trouble even opening OOTP9, and it is nearly impossible to start a game.

Is it possible to also download this game (legally) onto my 6 month old HP Vista laptop???

If this game continues to be so damn slow, and I can't get the game onto my laptop, then I'm afraid that you've lost a customer to Sports Mogul (I've been buying their game for 3 years now anyway).

Sorry to be so harsh and mean, but it had to be said,

Sincerely,

Mike

Sounds like you have other things running in the background. Have you tried disabling your AV while playing OOTP?

The game purchase comes with two licenses, so yes you can run it on a second computer.

Your purchase of the game gives you two licenses...so you can legally install it on your other computer if you'd like to.

It shouldn't be running slow......unless maybe you have a huge league or some really low specs (which even at 3 years...the game should still be very playable).

Hopefully it runs better on your 2nd computer.

pure speculation on the desktop issue but if you have a 3 year old desktop it is highly likely you have something with only 256M RAM which really ins't enough to even run XP all that well in my experience. If that is the case consider adding some RAM, not just for OOTP but everythign else should run better as well and RAM is pretty cheap these days. again, pure speculation on my part

also consider running this free utility to clean up your cluttered data and registry. between this and the RAM you should see increased speed on everything.

Mike,

I'm running on a Dell D620 laptop, 2.5 yrs old, under XP with no problems thus far.

You have two licenses so go ahead and install it on your Vista machine too. If you decide to remove it from the Dell remember to un-license first!

I'm having the same problem, OOTP 8 runs fine, this version that supposedly is quicker isn't even close. I'm getting like a 2 second lag just trying to switch between screens, I threw on a sim of like 5 years and went to bed, when I woke up like 5 hours later it was just over a year into the sim. WTF! I do have AVG so I turned it off totally, and it doesn't help at all still same lagging crap. I'm trying to be patient and try and check some things out but I just can't take it its horrible! I was excited to try the game out and that has quickly turned into feeling the same way I did with 06. The game is just garbage to me at this point, so I hope somebody has some advice better than it being my computer, because thats not the problem.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it's probably your computer. I tried mine last night on my 4+ year-old Intel P4 (single core) desktop with 3 gigs of RAM (upgraded from original configuration) and it ran perfectly fine even with Anti-virus, AOL IM, google chat, itunes, and internet explorer all running.

Most likely, you don't have enough RAM. I also might check to see how fragmented your hard drive is and degrag it if necessary.

A couple thing things you might try that helped me. On the advice offered in another thread I turned of facegen and set the auto display mode to simple dialog. I found this sped up my sim speed signifigantly.

Hope this helps.

I made a few adjustments to my comp and its running pretty good now, I'll try turning off Facegen and see if that helps too, I never liked Facegen anyway! Thanks

I always need to turn off my virus protection to make OOTP run with any performance.

Why turn it off and not just put OOTP and all its folders in the exclude list? You should also put the OOTP folders in the exclude list for all indexing services you are running. With the number of files OOTP generates, the indexing services will go crazy.

XP and Vista have their own indexing services along with the Google and Yahoo desktop search programs.

I guess because in the old days Markus suggested I turn it off.

Of course it would probably help if I actually knew how to use an exclude list, too. My 3-minute run through McAfee didn't show me anything obvious...I'll figure it out in my copious free time, though.

At the current moment, I am running AVG AV, MS Outlook, Quickbooks Pro 2007, and Turbo Tax 2007 on my laptop which has a 2.8 gh processor and 2 mb of ram and runs very fast. The only time there is a noticeable slowdown is when I surf the internet for an extended period with the game minimized and then go back to the game.

If it slows, I just exit the game and restart it and the speed is back.
