BZ 1478: Faces.Dat Crashes with Converted Mac Leagues
Since post the bugs below, I decided to advance my game a few days and received new email. When I click to read the new email the program quits/crashes. Since I'm in the free agency period, I can't continue to play the game if I can't read email. So the new game is useless to me at the moment. Hard to believe I'm the only one with this problem, but maybe so.

Not much help, but I have been testing on a Mac and have never seen this issue. What specs and OS are you running? We'll try to get to the bottom of this...

Info on my computer is a follows:
OS X Version 10.4.11 Processor 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Memory 1 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM Please also see my post below on two other menu selection crash bugs. Since posting this, I decided to go back an load the MLB game which comes with the program. None of the problems I've found with my "old" saved game occurred with the MLB game. Maybe the problem relates to converting OOTP 7 games into a Mac. Thanks for your response. |

Hi,
Do you have FaceGen enabled? If so, I have a feeling your crashes are related to mine here. The fix mentioned in that thread works, but regenerates the pictures (I think) for all active players, so they may look different. Remember to back up your league first. Disabling FaceGen also worked, but I like it. If you're not using FaceGen, then...ignore all that. |

Thanks
Hi Ohfer,
I tried your suggestion and it worked! I didn't associate the problem with Facegen since it was crashing when I was doing things like trying to read new email. I remember the OOTP 7 Mac version had a problem with automatically updating pictures in Facegen, but I thought that was fixed. I will miss some of the old faces, but the new ones seem to have a more intense color which I like. Maybe it's just my imagination. Thanks for taking the time to reply. RebelFan |

MAC Problems
I posted a bug earlier that games imported from OOTP 7 constantly crash. One of the fourm users was helpful enough to alert me to a way to work around the problem. The problem apparently stems from FACEGEN pictures. If you delete the faces.dat file from your imported game and regenerate all new pictures, the game will work.
I see my problem posting is now in the "fixed" file. Not to be picky, but I don't believe the problem has been "fixed". Having to manually go in and delete a file and lose the pictures which were created in the older version is not a fix in my opinion. I think you should be able to import an older version game and have it work correctly and retain all elements created in that game, including pictures. If this is not the intent of the program then you should advertise that games created in older versions require some modification to work in the new version. |

I'm in the same boat. I run an online league, and it would be very sad to get rid of all player pictures that have been around for a while now, giving everybody new faces.
The problem isn't fixed at all. The "fix" allows the league to continue to function, which is already that, but if you can't keep your faces, it's not really fixed, no?

Besides, even with the faces deleting trick, retired players still make the game crash.

Merged the two threads.
Have you tried running FaceGen in one of the two troubleshooting modes to see if that will solve the problem without removing the faces.dat file? |

Also, facegen works properly otherwise.

Nutlaw: Finish Today/Quickplay - merge thread?
Sir,
I'm going to try disabling the FaceGen feature and let it generate new ones. What this thread has in common with my "ticket" is that RebelFan and I are running identical machines and both converted leagues from earlier versions. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for being here! |

Hrm. Another thing to try:
Make a copy of the faces.dat file from the converted copy of your league and then put it somewhere safe. Copy the faces.dat file from your OOTP 2007 saved game and put it directly into the .lg folder of your converted league. What happens then? Can you load the game properly? Are your face features retained when the game regenerates picture? |

The bad news is I get a message saying: "Error: DATABASE::load_database - could not load faces file", and when I click OK it tells me something lke "Could not load league, database is corrupt". I couldn't write it down because it crashed, like, 5 seconds later. Thankfully, I could restore the OOTP9 faces file and it worked again although the old problem is still there.

Okay, I just logged this as BZ 1478.
Can anyone with this issue please send us a zipped copy of the .dat files from their saves both pre- and post-conversion and let us know what they are named per the following thread: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...-files-us.html |

I'm uploading as we speak. Huge file (505mb). I had to include pictures for both the OOTP8 and OOTP9 files, which makes it more than 12 times larger than the biggest file on that server.

I've completed uploading mine (Long_Long_Name.zip), which contains both OOTP8 and OOTP9 files. It's huge (505mb, the biggest file on the server is 41mb) since I had to upload full pictures (for both OOTP8 and OOTP9), I'm just warning you so you can delete it as soon as possible.

Could you please re-upload them without the pictures? Those are some massive files. The .dat files are plenty to diagnose the problem.

Actually, oddly, I tried to do a back-up, and... well, once in OOTP9, there was no bug. The original faces had also disappeared, though. That's why I uploaded the files with the pictures. I'll give it another try.

Just copy and paste the .dat files from your .lg folder. If that copy can load up in OOTP 9 without issue, then the problem likely lies in some of your current images.

Long_Long_Name2.zip is up.
