Will we get the Manual before...

Will we get the manual before the game or right when it is ready for download? Just asking, because I am new to this game. Would looking at the old manual be worth it or is this version too different for that manual to help me be ready for the game? Just want to be ready to jump in with both feet.....

Here's the thread from 4 days ago...

Doesn't seem to be much interest in reading these days in our current multimedia society.

Also, the manual for OOTP'07/OOTP8 should do a good job of tuning you up for OOTP9. The games aren't that different, with the big change in play style probably most likely being the change to the scouting system from several scouts to just one.

I did miss this thread sorry. Did not mean to be a bother. Either way thank you for your concern...

Thank you for your considerate help. Apparently I had missed a previous thread with this very question.

In any event, lets hope the manual comes out as soon as possible. I'd like adjust/fine tune my settings to accommodate the new changes before I start my next season - and I want to start that as soon as possible.

Gooooo Battists

Don't worry about it, whitesocks. In the days before a game release, with the increased activity on this forum now, it's easy to miss a two-post thread that's currently near the bottom of page 2 already.

Do people print the manual out or just look at it on the computer? I know that it is very large and would take a lot of paper. Just one more question, I sound like Columbo....LOL

I did print manual out for OOTP 8, but I probably will only printout certain sections of OOTP 9 manual this time.

I don't think we will be able to download the manual before the game is released.

My suggestion? Save a tree.

In PDF format, you can search for the items that you need, and hopefully battists will have mastered the problem of reproducing the hyperlinks in PDF that are so handy (or provide the Word version that is the basis for the manual, protected if preferred, as an alternative - Control + Click will be necessary to activate the links in a Word document but that is better than giving up on them altogether).

Then, you should print only the sections that you really need to keep handy or read away from the game. For me, that is very little; I use Alt + Tab to switch back and forth to the manual while playing the game, and much of the manual is available in-game anyway by pressing F1.

Thank you for the suggestions and technique. I had thought of printing it out, but the amount of paper and ink that it would take was a little worrisome. Wondered if anyone took it and printed it out at a copy center.

I will venture to guess what will happen in that case. Once you get into the game, the book, for that is what it is, will sit on your shelf unread except for the few times that you have to refer back to a specific section for some refresher. Then you will get tired of having to leaf through it to find that section (the manual has an excellent Table of Contents but it alone is 21 pages!) and you will say to yourself, "Say, what was that guy, 1978 Yankees or something, talking about using the manual in Adobe Reader? Let me try that instead."

I am going to try your suggestion if only because of the cost involved....

Manual? Who reads manuals? That's what the forums are for.

After awhile you will start calling all my questions pointless because I could look in the manual and find out the answer. Or you will just ignore me...Either way I would not want to annoy people with questions that I could find the answer out by myself. Although that doesn't mean that I will not ask questions. I will probably have a lot of questions others with more experience with this game will see as simple...Just understand I am new to this game.....

Reading, or at least skimming through, a manual is a lot easier than searching the forums for one particular benefit.

Over the years, in this and other game forums, I have noticed many players completely unaware of certain features because they just never come across them while playing. Some are enlightened in the forums of course, but how many others never know the full array of features offered in the games they play?

That is one of the best reasons for using a manual, over and above "how do I do . . ."
