It's telling me my demo ran out and I have to buy the game... but I bought the game last year when it came out. What is going on?

I have an unrelated question... is it possible to install the game to a USB stick and run it soley off of that? I ask because I'm going back to school and I want to be able to limit my playing time without deleting my franchise.
