Number of innings pitched...???

I have noticed that every now and then in the game box scores, the pitching results under "IP" do not add up to the number of innings played by the batting side. This problem has existed since OOTP3. Am I missing the point somewhere or is this a small bug.
Anyone else seen this? Thanks.

This probably isn't the answer, but it could be a very simple answer to your problem... let's say the game goes into extra innings and you're the home team. You score in the bottom of the 12th with no outs. The other team's batters will have played 12 innings, but their pitching staff will have pitched only 11 innings.
