Setting player positions
We are trying to run an historical based league. The sim sets positions for the players and rates the players. It also sets pitcher roles. I know the sim will change a position players basic position, but I don't believe the sim will change a pitcher's role (SP/MR/CL) from season to season.
Owners can set a position for a player. First question is can this be disabled by the commish. Second, besides changing the Stars does it have any other affects (e.g. creating a rating for a player at a position, changing pitcher endurance or the affects of endurance, etc). Thanks Bill |

Before I can answer...
1) I assume you're using recalc as you say 'the sim will change... positions.... from season to season.' 2) Are you wanting to disable owner changing of position, or the game doing so? You can't disable owner changing and if you do have recalc on you can't stop the game from changing it. A player only gets a rating at a position for which he plays. A centerfielder labelled as a catcher is in no risk of getting catching ratings unless the game starts playing him there. As to whether the AI will start playing a guy so far out of position if his label says that is what he is... I don't know. My OCD keeps me labelling all my guys with their proper position labels. |

Will the sim change the pitcher role from season to season (e.g. MR to SP, CL to MR, etc)? Thanks for the confirmation. Bill PS: what is OCD? |

Honestly, I'm not sure if recalc will change a pitcher's listed position. It will definitely change his ratings to conform to whatever position in the pitching staff it thinks he should have, however. So, for example, Rick Aguilera will go from a starter to a reliever ratings-wise in the late '80s, I just don't know if the game will change his listed position. I think it does, but I'm not sure.
OCD is obsessive-compulsive disorder. I have compulsions, rather than obsessions, and they are very light and don't particularly have any effect on my life. But, damnit, all my players need to be listed at certain positions! (No wonder 'labelling' looks weird, it's supposed to have only one L. Damned typos.) |
