Drafts, expansions and the results ?
I must stress on you mates and get this correctly.
If I like to play a hist-sims and perhaps only admit fictional players as a complement to fill up minors which way should I tick the setup. Automate Expansion of course, but how but click in To Hold expansion draft or not. How will the AI select differently. I see that getting the correct team into the expansion will be easy, BUT players. Simming up to the year of a certain expansion will truly put 99% other players into these expansion teams when it´s time. D-backs, Rockies, Rays, Marlins and so on will look 99% different in their expansion year than in their historical correct expansion. Expand on this please. How will I get more life-like teams when the year comes ??? Next in the annual amateur draft. One issue is of course adding of new fictional players, BUT I am more concerned that Lahmann or Gambo will add new players to the correct historical team. This way I see that the amateur draft is a problem. Set me straight mates.... |

It sounds like you would be better suited by using ghost players. If you want clubs to be as realistic as possible, then use ghost players and avoid using any fictional players. Yes, you can prevent fictional players from reaching the major leagues, but if you want absolute historical accuracy, then I think it is best to use ghost players.
There is nothing you can do to insure that expansion teams will have the same personnel that they did in real life. There are too many variables involved. Some historical players may have more or less value than they did in real life once the expansion years arrive, so some of the players who were left unprotected for the draft may be protected this time. Others who had less value in real life might be more important to their teams in your historical sim, especially depending on depth charts and lineups. You don't have to hold the amateur draft. You can have the game add the historical rookies to the teams that they joined in real life. Or you can enable the draft and have it include only historical rookies. You don't need to worry about fictional players in a draft where you're using historical rookies. Your fictional players would only be filling out the minor leagues and would not be in the draft. But this is where I recommend using the ghost players, because I think you're looking to keep it simple and keep it as historical as possible. |

Thanks,
but then I understand I should HOLD expansion draft, when the times comes and just let the Universe and the luck of the AI managers turn lose on whatever the others didn´t protect. I think I skip amateur draft then all together and just let the Historical Players be added to their first MLB team, that they played in the first year (that´s MLB first year using Lahmann I understand, but Gambo has first Pro year) |
