Pick two of these starters as the core 1-2 for your deadly mid-late 60's starting staff.

NOTE: didn't find a way for the website software to limit you to just two choices, so people are on their honor in picking just two.

Hunter had only a handful of really good seasons, he was pretty much average the rest of the time. Of course, Ryan was maddeningly inconsistent as well, but nobody was better than him back then when he was on.

It came down to Seaver, Carlton and Ryan for me. My head says Seaver and Carlton, my heart says Seaver and Ryan. I went with Tom Terrific and Carlton for the right-left punch, ultimately.

funny - i didn't even think about that. whatever works for you. i am really just saying who you like as a pitcher period. i suppose a little discussion on recalc vs no recalc and it's impact on the pitcher's might be good.

btw, in my historical league i chose 'remaining peak years' and wonder if other people like that angle.

The reason I ask is because if recalc is on, then those pitchers will wind up more like real life, thus having an effect on my choice.

If recalc is off, then there's no guarantee what they'll turn out like.

You're basing your question on what they did in real life and who would we rather have based on their real life outcome.

So there's a big difference.

in my league, no recalc, peak remaining seasons for ratings, and 66 for talent change (66% chance they go historical)

The biggest problem I had wen picking 2 guys here was that these guys had their best seasons in the 70's not the 60's....Most of them weren't very good till the 70's rolled on so was hard to pick based on what they did in the 60's

Maybe I was getting too technical tho

well, I should have said, 'pick the guys you'd want when they come into the league' and groom them on your staff. not just when they performed the best.

Koufax had his last season in '66, so outside the concept range of this poll. Gibson was halfway through his career by the mid-late 60's.

Concept was, what young stud would you want to build around. I just didn't do a great job of outlining it in the first post.

Nobody dominated like these two over the number of seasons they did. Maybe I will pair them on a team and see how it goes, that would be fun. How do I make players untradeable without actually managing the teams?

Went with Carlton as my ace and Palmer as the number 2. Was going to select Seaver but Palmer just seemed too consistent to pass up. With him you knew you had 20 in the bank.....

I am not sure you can do that. I don't know that the AI would respect any players that you had put on the 'Untouchable List' and then switch the team over to AI.

But it would be a swell thing to try.

I voted for Catfish (long-time Swingin' A's fan), but he actually had his big seasons in the 70's (1971 through 1975: 21-21-21-25-23) so I don't think he even belongs in this list. Better additions might have been Bob Gibson or Juan Marichal IMHO. But all good pitchers anyway!

I picked Carlton and Seaver....But this list of pitchers for the most part were 70s guys. Ryan was a relief pitcher with the Mets in the late 60s..
