USBL ends 1st season, have 4 open spots, two expansion spots...

USBL Ends season, still looking for quality GMs

Hey. The USBL just compleated it's first season of play, and with coming that, we have to say bye to those who did not fulfil their dutues. So right now, the Colorado Rockies, Anaheim Angels, Texas Rangers, and the Kansas City Royals are currently without a GM. We are also looking for General Managers who are interested in an expansion team come after the 2003 season. I know it's long, but i'ts better to secure a spot later then get it done prior to the draft and such... With the ner server, comes a new message board. If you are interested in joining the league, you will be requiered to send a post at the USBL message board, entitled Waiting List. There, you may state your name, e-mail address, AIM screen name, your .400 message board name, and a quicky resume. Have Fun!

Cody I was looking for a league to join but as I said last week when you were looking for GM's I am a bt scared by the immense turnover in the league.
9/20 you had two teams, Giants and Indians, open.
10/1 you had the Padres open
10/8 four more teams open (Marlins, Mets, Blue Jays and Braves)
10/15 Rockies and Orioles open
10/25 Colorado Rockies, Angels, Rangers, and Royals open

Are you the strictest commish in the world or is this normal turnover for many online leagues? With 13 teams open in about a month, that's nearly half the league! Do you include Nirvana song lyrics in every league update and drive them away
Also, if teams are always turning over, does expansion seem like a good idea? Just curious, maybe there are some vet commish's that could help you out with tips on keeping GMs.

Of course I think your situation is much better than the guy in the other thread here who keeps making leagues and then bails on his GMs

Ok, i'm back

Here is how I look at it...

I try to make my league the best I can. I try to get general managers involved somehow, either in poll questions, and the message board. But hardly anyone ever posts. That shows me that no one is caring about the league. I have a rule in the league, stating "There is no deleting league mail". The reason I have this rule, is to make sure General Managers knows whats going on in the league. I havent been partolling it as of late, but I have caught a GM deleting just about every league mail, and he was terminated from the league. I had people suggest to no longer send league mail. Others say to not to make updates on the board. I send e-mails, people quit. at one time, I havent sent out a e-mail in almost three weeks, and people quit. It gives me the impression that GMs has mixed feeling about it. I think those gms has left.

I try to put so much into my league, and I really don't think my GMs really undertsands that. I have had so many GMs quit because they "don't have time" but if I get so many quitters say that, then how do you expect me to believe that? Looking into the quitters, and most of them have records that makes them out of any playoff contension. Any connections?

I try to put as much effort into the league. The hell, I even skiped class one day just to upload the remaining files I didn't the night before. That shows that I have passion in my league. I have one and only goal. To may my General Managers happy at the end of the day. I have not had one person IM or e-mail me saying thanks, or even a conpliment. It shows me that I am not doingm y job up to their expectations, and it gets me down. I wanna do this. I don't wanna shut down the league. I just want to be understood.

I think my league is as simple as any other MLB rostes, MLB team league. But I really don't see much difference between one league to another, because maybe of a salary cap, or different web graphics.

I really don't expect much out of my general managers. Just keep in contact with me. Send in your exports, and post on the message board, and you will stay in the league. It's pretty mcuh simple as that. I don't require GMs to write articles. Just simply follow the rules, and everything will be smooth. Thats all I ask.

Thats all I have to say for now

If you have AOL, and sadly, I do, you see them all the time. I knew people who ran leagues, then two weeks later, shut them down because they wanna win, or GMs quit, and that he/she is too lazy to get more. Another downfall is lack of communication. I used to be in those leagues when i first started, now I learned about better leagues, and I have gotten away from them forever

Just a suggestion: with the seemingly difficult task you are having keeping GMs, perhaps expansion is something you'd want to wait on or perhaps eliminate. All you are doing is creating more spots that you will have to work towards filling which is not really fair for the few GMs you have sticking it out throughout your tumultuous times.

Too late

Already for the two expansion GM slots filled, and filled 3 more GM spots in the process...

Not in a very happy mood...

I am highly considering shut down. I feel like I am doing all that I can, but I get nothing in return. Thats how I feel like, used. I try to get Gms, but I hardly ever get an responce. I simply don't see why. I try to get GMs involved in simple tasks, like post on the board, vote in polls, ect... It seems like all my GMs are lazy bumbs, who all they want is their team to win, and if not, they are going to whine, and quit. It really pisses me off. I've been tring to get help like i'm tring to fetch for water to survive, but I don't get no responce. I feel like i'm being ignored. It is that no one cares about the league? Is it that no one wants to join? I need questions answered, and I would like then answered soon.

Probably time to shut it down. You've replaced 50% of your GM's and only simmed one season. I could give you some reasons why you may be having difficulty in private if you want to hear them. If you are getting frustrated, then just participate in other leagues and let other Commissioners do all the work. There are so many good leagues out there - more leagues than players, really If you really want to be a Commish, go with a smaller league. I really think smaller leagues are the key, 20 teams or so.

I'd agree with Scott..........smaller leagues are the way to go.

I'd also agree that there are alot of great leagues out there.........but there are some not-so-good ones too.

Pick and choose wisely...........you might have to wait to get into the right league, but it'll pay off down the road.

Get on a league's board and post and become known to the owners.

Write articles (ABA needs a reporter) and get involved.

If your league doesnt make it, no big deal. Pick up your toys and go play elsewhere and maybe later, using the knowledge you've gained from other leagues, restart and run it a bit differently.

If you make an OOTP5 league when the game comes out next year, I promise to join it (and I won't be a deadbeat). Don't know if that helps, but maybe it will I would like to join an online league, but I currently use OOTP3 so I'm waiting until v5 comes out so I can buy it and join a league then.

You know they lowered the price of OOTP4 to 19.90, don't you.

A small price to pay for the enjoyment it'll give you for the next 6 months until v5 comes out.

Hey USBL_Commish, I understand part of where you are coming from. You would think that it would be pretty easy to send in an export 2 or 3 times a week yet you will find poeple who continue to neglect it.

From what I've seen the key is to try recruit people who are not in a lot of leagues. My personal opinion is that 2 to 3 leagues are the max to really enjoy playing online. I get no satisfaction from just sending exports and watching my team. I like to get into the other teams, news, articles, everything that makes a great league in my opinion.

My advice to you is to keep doing what your doing but at the same time be very selective in who you choose to join. The NGBL has had high turnover in the first season but in the process we have some of the best GMs around instead of online league junkies.

Hope this helps out, from one "strict" Commish to another...LOL

I know, but I would rather stick with OOTP3 for the next 6 months. OOTP4 will be outdated in only 6 months anyway. I still don't think v4 was a substantial enough improvement. I will buy v5 as soon as it comes out though.

I'm tring to avoid that... But if shutting down is the way to go, then so be it...

BTW, if I did do a shoreter league, would anyone be interested, and not bail out?
