I whipped up a little Excel spreadsheet that averages out a small number of random numbers to give me a bell curve output of numbers between 1 and 5 for each of the 5 tendencies.
Then to keep things interesting, I fire any coach that has a sub .400 record for two seasons in a row, and replace him with a new one with new tendencies. -- Evan |

EvanW, can you describe how you would do that? I'm not very familiar with Excel. If it's too complicated you don't have to. I can probably just figure it out by looking at the help option in Excel. Thanks for any help.

5 columns, 10 rows each, with each cell containing "=RANDBETWEEN(1,6)"
Under each column, a cell containing =INT(AVERAGE(range)) which calculates the average of the ten rows, and then truncates it to an integer. Then, everytime the spreadsheet recalculates (which you can trigger simply by putting any number in any cell elsewhere in the page), the random numbers change and I get 5 numbers which I apply to the 5 tendencies. 1 = almost never 2 = less often 3 = normal 4 = more often 5 = very often I've only seen a 1 or 5 once. most everything else falls in the 2-4 range. You could reduce the number of rows to increase the chances of falling outside the mean, or increase them to reduce the chances. I was going to do this in C, but then realized it would take me 2 minutes to do it in Excel.....so I blew it off. ![]() Of course, what would be slick for OOTP5 would be either the AI smart enough to change tendencies based on team capability or drafting/trading/signing FA based on tendencies... -- Evan Last edited by EvanW; 10-23-2002 at 05:15 PM. |

I was using a random number generator, but then once I got into my Java class, created a small little program that asks you how many coaches you want to generate for, and then gives you the 5 tendency settings randomly.

No, but only because I don't know how to make it Executable or make it so it can work with just the Runtime Environment, as of now, you'd have to have the System Development Kit too. Oh, and I have no where to post it, too.

Executables, Runtime Enviroment and System Development Kits? Oh my. Yeah, I'm lost already. Maybe I'll just tryout the excel one, that is about the level of my computer IQ.
Thanks anyways, |
