MLB On Demand

There will not be a repeat of the 07 preseason debacle with the season ticket on cable this year right? The settlement last year was multi year if I remember correctly. I hope so, the wife and I love the baseball package (still Nomar fans, plus seeing other out of market teams is fun, plus most of the other announce teams remind us how lucky we are to have DO and Jerry Remy in Boston).

What debacle? I for one didn't hear about it.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Just Google it about a year ago. There was some big hoo-haa about it. Can't remember the exact details but if I recall MLB signed an exclusive with one of the satellite TV providers in the US and you couldn't get MLB On Demand if you didn't have them.

As I said, don't remember many details, but there's probably threads on here from last year that sum it up.

Basically, DirectTV was close to signing an exclusive, multi year deal, like they have with the NFL, that would've given DTV exclusive rights to MLB baseball. The big sticking point was the new MLB channel, which is set to air in 2009. Cable companies wanted to offer it only on the premium digital package, but MLB wanted it as part of cables basic package. Cable (In Demand) came in at the last second and matched DirectTV's offer though. I want to say it was a six of seven year deal, so those of us with cable are safe for now

In Demand recently posted package pricing on their website.

I know what you mean about the (lower) quality of some out-of-town announcers when your local market is so blessed to have one of the best. Here in Seattle we are very lucky to have Dave Niehaus. He's paints a picture better with words so well, yet is right on the ball during the most exciting plays and you know exactly what's going on. He's the most recent winner of the Baseball HOF's Ford C. Frick Award to honor one announcer annually.
