Minor League Free Agent Problem

Has anyone ever fixed or found a workaround for this problem:

With financials off, players who sign with independent minor league teams are stuck with them forever. They never become free agents and have no chance to get back into the major league system.

In OOTP 2006, they became "minor league free agents" free to sign with any team after no more than 6 years.

In OOTP 2007, that feature was lost.

As far as I know, and someone correct me if I'm wrong please, but there is an option that lets you turn minor league free agency on or off. I lose minor leaguers to free agency every season after their 6 years or whatever is up.

Are your financials on or off?

I play purely draft and trade with financials off. Save the money grubbing for the real world.

If there is a toggle for this, I haven't found it.

Ideally, you would be able to set the number of years.

Oh, well I play with financials on. I can't speak about if financials are turned off b/c I've never played that way.

When I have tried playing around in a similar way, I forced the independent teams to release everybody each year manually.

Again, something was lost between OOTP 2006 and OOTP 2007 that needs to be restored.

In my semi-historical leagues, I use an independent Pacific Coast League as a second chance league for players who have been released from major league organizations. All I can do now is manually release players.

This needs to be fixed!

If this leagues are set as as independent minors, the best solution is to set these up as an international or separate major league. While the problem is that guys will acquire service time, you can still set free agent status to occur after only a year. This doesn't keep guys from signing extensions, but it still provides a more effective system.
