OOTP for Mac or Windows?

I'm waiting for delivery of a new Mac to replace my PC, but plan to load Windows on it as well as the Mac O/S. My thinking is I will load OOTP on the Windows side because most all of the add-ons available are Windows based, but wondered what others have chosen to do.

Most "add-ons", like schedules, roster packs or graphics, are available for Mac as well. Most of them are just files, not .exe files, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I can tell you my experience. When I got my Mac, I already had the Windows version of the game, so I used it in my Windows side. But, it was the only thing I used Windows for. I hated double-booting, so I have Parallels that I barely ever use. I recently got OOTP8 for Mac, and I love using it in the Mac environment instead of double-booting, so I'd recommend getting the Mac version. There are only three problems with the Mac version you should be aware of. First, you can't scroll with your mouse's scrollwheel if you have one. Second, you need internet access everytime you boot up the game (I leave it open in permanence, so I don't have that problem). Third, "foreign" characters such as éöîàç and so on are supported, but can be complicated to enter occasionally. To me, these are all minor disagreements compared to the huge advantage of being able to run in the OS X environment.

Thanks for sharing your insights, Long_Long_Name. The one add-on I'll really hate to give up is the OOTP Editor, which of course is a program. Using it, I've been able to get the Rule 5 Draft to work at the right time in a historical league. Since I already have version 8 for Windows, I'll use it for now, then seriously consider the Mac version when version 9 comes out. I do have several other applications for which I need to install the Windows partition, so I expect I'll also want to install Parallels or VMware Fusion to avoid the need to reboot every time I need to use a Windows program.

Be careful of the mac version. I like many others are experiencing a lot of problems with it. check the tech support for info
